Hey guys,

I don't really consider myself a noob, but this is the first x3 chip that I have messed with, so I am with these chips.

Anyways, I put the chip in, no problem, I do lots of ps2 mods, so the xbox is not a problem, as far as the soldering goes. I flashed the chip, again with no problem, as I have done quite a few xbox mods as well, flashing the chips and all that stuff.

Here is where the problem started, about a month into it. I am just enjoying the modded goodness that only an xbox can bring you and then one day I reset it and the stupid flash bios screen comes up. Didn't know what the deal was, so I turned it off and the same thing comes up again. I then messed with the little switches on the front, making sure they were in the right places, off, off, on, on, on. And it seemed to fix it...

But then it occasionally comes back to that screen. I am not sure what is wrong, if it really is even those switches or not, but it seems to fix it when I mess with them.

Anyone have any ideas or experienced this before. I can get it to work everytime, but sometimes it takes a couple of tries, turning on and off the xbox, which is just going to wear out the parts quicker on the inside.

Thanks in advance for the help.

well, for one thing, setting the switches to off off on on on is for one of the 256k banks. What bios do you have on anyway? If one of the X3 bioses, then the switches should be either on on off off (for banks 1234) or off on off off (5678 banks) (note I left the last switch out because it's for the flash protection and since you are not flashing now, it doesn't matter). If all that doesn't work, try disconnecting the X3 cp cable.

sorry, i meant the on, on, off, off, off. I have also tried to the other way for the 1mb bios to try to flash both banks with the x3 1959 bios and it does the same thing.

Anyways, it is the x3 bios and has been working great for quite some time, but now everytime I reset the xbox, the stupid flash screen comes up, i am going to take it apart and recheck my connections, just to eliminate that.

But I have tried taking off that cable, and it works better but still has some problems after a bit.

Thanks for the reply, though.

Just a stab in the dark, flip the protect switch on the chip and see if that could be it!

Hope this helps!!!!

the switch inside hasn't been changed since I installed the chip and flashed it, so that couldn't be the problem, and I have successfully flashed it since, trying to try some different combos to get the chip to run consistent.

As far as the color, it comes on blue when the bios actually loads and the purple when the flashbios screen comes up.

The xbox is a version 1.0 by the way, with a 300 gig seagate and evox loaded on there, although I don't think any of that has anything to do with the troubles I am having.

well, i took it apart and put it back together, just moving around some of the pieces in there, but resoldered nothing, and it is doing better. not sure what was causing it, maybe the little board that is by the controller ports was grounding on something, no clue,

but thanks for all the responses.
