I installed xebian linux to my xbox harddrive's E partition today. I was using a usb mouse and a usb keyboard when following the on-screen installation instructions. Now after it has been installed, my keyboard and mouse do not work, not in any pc or xbox. The mouse powers on but doesn't work, and the keyboard seems to have no power to it becuase when I press the caps lock key, the led doesn't light up like it used to. :(

I think somehow maybe linux has formatted my mouse and keyboard? Maybe someone can help me with this. MartinC maybe cos he's great at solving xbox problems. :D Please help. I will give rep points to everyone who helps. Thanks.

I think I just peed myself:D

neither one works on anything? Are you sure? If it just doesn't work on your xbox that's because you have to load USB drivers onto the Linux OS... I think.

Nope, they don't work on my Windows XP PC, Windows XP Laptop, or XBMC or Linux. They worked before on all of these, after I installed linux to the E of the hdd, they no longer work in anything.

I'm flattered you think I can fix *anything*, but this sounds a little strange....

Does your XP machine detect the new hardware at all? Do the connectors look ok still?

The connectors look fine, XP doesn't even detect the mouse & keyboard. I could get some new Input USB connectors from a maplin store and solder the wires to them to see if that's the problem.

Did anything obscure happen when installing linux?

Were you present the entire time? Did anyone have access to the Xbox while you weren't there?

What you could try (and is the first thing I'd do) is to dismantle the mouse and get a multimeter to check continuity from the USB connector and the end of the cable inside the mouse. I'm thinking along the lines of a broken wire at the moment..

Did you ever try disconnecting the mouse and keyboard with.. your teeth or maybe a baseball bat?

Seriously, did you make a habbit of pulling out the USB cords violently?

That's my opinion... that it got FUBAR physically.

Or maybe you have shorted the USB bus or board or whatever.... and it pumped too much juice to the devices.

Alls I know is both keyboard and mouse are input only devices... so there couldn't be any software that would do this. :)

I will do the multimeter method soemtime soon, and post results. Nothing wierd happenned when installing Linux, I was there doing the installation. The usb socket i used was a maplin one, it's quite tight so could have bent the usb pins slightly. It could have possibly shorted, the solder joints of thw usb socket wires are close together. Thanks for the help guys, I will post results when I have checked the wires and connections with the multimeter.
