Kinect Question

Just got Kinect for my 360 Slim. When I try to calibrate using nxe I just get a grey background with a green blobbish area of myself. In the games, I have a beast of a time getting the kinect to follow my motions.

I got this kinect from Gamestop as used, did I buy a dud? Or is this just me needing more practice? Or is this some sort of issue with Kinect and RGH?

I have done something similar to get the Avatar update. Looks like this is the avatar update/Kinect update in one, which I am pretty certain I do not have the Kinect update yet. Can I just install this over my current (if any) Avatar update?

See,you probably don't actually have the update,so yes,and then the prompt when the usb is connected should in the picture on that link.
