To make a lan led, do i just solder a wire from the lan point (as in x3 install) to the negative and the positive of the led to the 5v+ of the hdd power wires? Like this:

Wire from Negative of LED to LAN point

Wire from positive of LED to 5V+/red wire of HDD power wires

Check this out.

It's probably the easiest and safest way to add a custom LAN LED. Also, since the X3 sort of reverses polarity (the signal goes from a being a ground to being a positive 3.3v, you can use a bi-color LED and have both HDD and LAN status in one. And since most LEDs are comfortable operating around 3.3v, you won't need any resistors.
