License already in use

I uploaded my generated file online, and downloaded the license.dat
once I start using it, it tells me that it wasn't valid, so I press A for checking online and I get "License Already in Use"

What am I missing here?

We need some more info. That message means that the license you are trying to use was activated on another Switch already.

Are you just trying to use your SX Pro Dongle, if you have one, to boot another Switch and activate a license for that Switch? Did you send your Switch for repairs? We can most likely help, just don't have enough info on your situation.

I have a 2nd Switch, so wanted to use the same dongle.
Bought an extra License. (no clue where to use it)
But had no file on the new switch, and it generated a new file.
Went to the site, and uploaded the file, and then it downloaded a file.
That one I put in the root and that was it..

so want to use 1 dongle on 2 Switches.. and have 2 SX Pro licenses.
Since it's been a long time, I looked in the manual, but it says nowhere what to do, just Activate online... and tried that too with the switch.

No problem. It actually should be an easy fix. You need to boot the second Switch with tegraRCMgui or a mobile phone if thats easier the first time so that it creates a license-request that isn't tied to the license on the dongle. Once you do that upload that license-request to the site and it should ask you for the key that was sent to you by the retailer. Once you have that license file, put that on the second Switches SD and then you should be able to boot with the dongle going forward.

Alternatively you could just try to activate online in the Album and should ask you for the key as well I believe.

where the user had the same problem.. it's not clear in the guide.. (just checked it too)
Guess there are not many people buying a 2nd license hehe

Assuming that you use the same usb dongle (SX Pro, already claimed license).

If you try to activate the license again on 2nd switch.
It will says that the license is used.
And there is an option for you to press A to type in license key manually.
Here, you can type in SX OS (key) which you purchase.
After it is done. A license.dat file will be generated on your root folder of microsd.
Make sure you copy this file somewhere safe.

Yes you do, the License is paired with your console serial, so one license, one console, new console, new lincense
