This might be a dumb question but did you hook the cable up for the switch?? U know the front panel switch with LED. Maybe u forgot to plug the cable in or maybe you thought you didn't need the switch board.

I'm having the exact same problem. I connected everything per the drawing and triple checked everything. When i power up the external switch piece doesn't lite up, the hdd & network lites never blink, and the x-box boots like i never touched it. The led on the mod-chip inside the box is on. What can i check?

ok i took it all apart agin and on the bottom the green wire from the D0/hdd/lan loom was been smashed by one of the mother board support would this cause my xbox not to boot the the mod chip?

i found that the 3.3V light on my mod chip was not lit. According to other threads this is most likely caused by a faulty solder joint on the pin header. I went back and touched up all the pin header solder joints and that corrected the problem.

I know this doesn't help you but I'm in the same exact boat you're in. I've checked and re-checked my solder points as well as all of my connections and can't find anything wrong. My X3 chips lights up so I know it's getting power. I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions anyone?? They would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I had the same problem too, initially. Well it wasn't really a problem. I had soldered everything correctly, but when I first tried turning my XBOX on, it just booted to the MS Dash, and no lights on the switch panel and no glow on the logo.

The issue with mine was I hadn't fully connected the plug with the black wires that comes from the switch panel to the modchip. I thought it was fully inserted, but then I decided to give it another good firm press together and then it finally clicked in. That did the trick and it has been working perfectly since.

So yeah, if it aint fragging, the chances are you have soldered everything correctly. The X3 just doesn't seem to "activate" unless you have the switch panel properly connected, which makes sense - how is it supposed to know what banks to boot from? Just check those connectors once more, as they are quite small and a little fiddly, but they are quite robust.

this is the closest i've come to my situation: bear with me...my rig is x2 with 120gb hdd, worked fine hell perfect, but then i had to get a different case, installed new case but moved switch over and in the process(unknowingly at the time until further investigating)i disconnected the wire to the board unsure of actual tech term for the fine line u solder to the board, anyways so when i turn it on i get the original ms dash asking me to select music etc...but my controller is inop...both leds are on the front and my light is on the chip no matter what position its in, i havent resoldered yet(obvious this will be part of solution) due to i have to go to work to use a solder iron..does anyone know of anything else this is symptomatic of or other issues i might encounter now? i am continueing on searching posts for someone else that has this posted plz forgive my ignorance for posting outside of the right forum, thanx for any help in advance and sorry so long and detailed...

For the posts above. Sweet and to the point. With the black wires. Take them off and check the PINS inside of the chip and the ext. board. If there are bent that is why the front isn't lighting up.
What i did was bend one pin. So i broke the pin off and thought i was fu$%ed. All i did was find the wire that goes to it stripped it back (not cut it off) and solder there and the the contact and worked fine. Please try this and let us know if that works.

Flashing Benq Drive (XBOX 360): PCI or Sata Port HELP?

I have read tutorials and seen youtube tutorials as well but my question is do i need to buy a via 6421a pci card or can i just get a sata cable and hook it up to my xbox 360. Because some tutorials say that i need a via 6421a pci card while other tutorials say i dont need a via 6421a pci card if i have a sata port (i can just use a sata cable to connect it directly to my xbox)

My computer has a sata port and a pci slot so im good for both but i dont want to spend the unnecessary money if i dont need to since a sata cable is much chepaer than a via 6421a pci card.

And if i need a pci card, will this one work?

VIA VT6421A 3-Port SATA Raid & IDE Controller PCI Card

and one last question. if i do need a pci card, does that mean that i will have to use a sata cable and connect the cable to the pci card and the other end of the cable to the benq drive?

Help much appreciated.

Re: Flashing Benq Drive (XBOX 360): PCI or Sata Port HELP?

"if the chip is compatible" what does that mean?
Will this sata port work? http://yfrog.com/61img0354p For example, can i buy a sata cable and plug it into the black port in the picture and the other end of the cable, i plug it into my benq drive. Will that work?

and i dont think you understood the second part of my question when you said
"and yes the 6421a pci card comes with a sata cable"
i know that the pci card comes with a sata cable but i was wondering what i am supposed to do with the pci card once i buy it.
