Hello,

I'm not completely new to updating the FW on my XBOX and have run into a problem. I have a Blaster CK3 and previously flashed LT+ 1.0 74850C drive. In the past I found it hit or miss connecting via the SATA cable to my VIA 6421 board, but eventually would get it to work.

The board does not have the drivers loaded and all prerequisites required by JF have been followed. Again, same computer I have used in the past when flashing.

Today I attempted to connect and update to LT+3.0. It was giving me problems but eventually JF 1.91 (300) was able to see the drive and I was able to verify my previous drive key. When moving on to the next step, which was erasing, I believe the erase completed because the vendor intro was sent and I had to power cycle the drive. Once I power cycled, I was never able to get it to connect back up with JF.

Basically I have a drive that appears to have no FW now, as I get the E64 message and I can't get it to connect to JF through the Blaster CK3 and VIA card.

Am I screwed? What can I do to get this thing to recognize in JF and get the FW loaded properly.

Thanks for any help.

I would open the box up, and connect it directly to the computer.
If you are having issues it may be a bad connection.

Are you using the correct SATA port on the via?

You are most likely NOT screwed, just a connection or driver issue.

Thanks for the response and I will give that a shot. When it does connect, should I just go straight to Intro/Device ID and try that over again? Or will I still need to verify the drive again?

In order to power cycle the drive when sending the Intro I have always just powered off the XBOX and powered back on again. Is there another method that is better?

I would send another Lite-On Erase, that kills it and allows an intro.

JF tells you to power cycle, and do what JF says. I dont have the blaster, I just unplug and plug back in for a power cycle, you can do that if you have to.

JF should display the drive with status 0x72

Let us know what happens.

With my Blaster I had trouble hitting vendor because my xbox took a few seconds to shut off so i counted how long it took to shut off and hit the power button to shut it off and just before it actually would i send lite-on erase and then power right back on.

As for the via if its given issues in the past i suggest usbpro well worth it!!!!

One more question before I open this thing up and connect directly. I remember reading way back when that I could get banned for powering up without the drive attached. Is that still an issue?

I wouldn't use the xbox to power your drive (while flashing).
I guess you shouldnt risk ist. Just use a connectivity kit to power the drive.

I don't know why this damn thing is giving me so much trouble. I have since tried connecting directly to the drive and having the XBOX power it. Tried a WinXP and Windows 7 machine with the VIA card and still can't get the drive to be recognized. Tried both ports on the card and two different SATA cables.

Getting pretty frustrated. I really don't want to shell out the $60+ for the USBPro.

Ok, finally have the X360USB Pro. Installed drivers in Windows and it is recognized fine. Unfortunately I didn't realize that there is still a separate device to purchase to power the drive outside of the 360, so I am still using the native power. Powered up the 360, JF recognizes the X360USB Pro, but doesn't see the drive. I don't see why using the system power wouldn't allow the drive to be seen, so any suggestions?

I am no longer using the Blaster, as it was recommended earlier in this post that I ditch it. I am now only using the X360USB Pro and 360 power.

Any ideas?
I think I know what's wrong. First of all, take a deep breath. Your are not screwed and we can get this baby back to life.
What you described in your original post is a classic case of a failed lite on erase. This problem is very common.
My first question is, is the your drive responding at all (can you eject the tray)? If you can't, then it's clearly a lite-on erase problem.
Usually the drive goes unresponsive after you entered the "Erase" command on JF and power on and off.

Anyway, take a good look at this tutorial. That's what you need to do to get it back to life.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cvfIcRhhIA"]Lite-on recover if it locked up after the erase - YouTube[/ame]

You will need:
1. latest Jungleflasher
2. iprep
3. a usb stick drive no larger than 2 gb
4. a PC that allows to boot from a USB drive
5. the lite on drive key
6. LT 3.0 fw
7. of course follow instructions on the above video
8. Disconnect any other ROM drive in your PC. Just leave hard drives active.

Now, I understand you are having trouble getting your lite on drive recognized by windows. At this point it is pointless that you troubleshoot this problem. Leave it like that for now. The reason is because since your Lite On drive locked up during the erase, it won't get recognized in windows no matter what you buy or how you connect it to windows.

Second, keep in mind that the recovery method is based on a DOS application. iPrep is a DOS application, therefore you won't be booting onto windows when recovering the drive. (Look at the video).
In order to recover your lite on drive, you will have to connect it to your PC either directly to your sata port on your motherboard, or via the VIA card. I prefer working directly with the onboard sata rather than the VIA card. But in this case, go ahead and re-install your VIA card all over again and reinstall the drivers.

Third, when using iprep for the recovery process you will be also flashing the LT 3.0 firmware. For this reason, at 2:35 of the tutorial, you need to load the corresponding Lt 30 firmware. It is also very important that you click spoof source to target and then click on save custom firmware. You will be using this CFW in iPrep later on so take note where you save it. On the video, at around 6:58 the guy is putting the CFW file in the iprep/USB stick. The just follow the steps as in the video.
