I'm embarrassed to admit that while dealing with multiple XBoxen and swaping drives around, I tried to plug a live power cable in backwards on my Lite-On and it sparked and smoked and smelled.
I inspected it and saw no damage. I tried to flash the drive for 30min, and got some responses, but never a good write. Later I realized one of the 3 big 0-ohm resisters looked kinda brownish. I tested all 3 and sure enough that one was not continuous. I removed the fried 0-ohm and connected its pads with a solder blob, and it was good as new.
The resistor was R207 (see pic).
If you made the same dumb mistake I did, there may still be hope for that drive.
