Hi all

Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction, my drive seemed to die the other day with the Open Tray error.

From searching YouTube I found various videos and tried cleaning the lense and greasing the poles the laser moves along all to no avail.

I have now purchased a new laser, removed the solder blob and connected it to the original drive but I am still experiencing the Open Tray issue.

The new laser moves however it doesn't seem to blink red like the old one did, connecting my old one again doesn't blink red any more (I was convinced even when not working it blinked red). Could this mean I have knackered the data ribbon cable? Just in case I have ordered one today as they were only cheap.

The CD momentarily spins but then does nothing else, I am purchasing a digital multimeter tonight to try and pot tweak the old laser but I am worried I might have damaged something else as I am not seeing a blinking red light any more.

Any ideas?

Below is the laser I brought.

Anything else I need to buy to replace it? Or is it a completely new drive I need? Which would involve flashing etc?

Just to clarify it is a XBox 360 Slim 240GB (Black)

Any help appreciated

Will do, it does look a bit crinkled as I have plugged/un-plugged it in a fair few times now.

Annoying as we normally play the Kinect around Christmas time!

If you don't find a way to fix it, you'll be playing "can't connect" this Christmas. Lol.

Dont forget open tray error isn't only laser or ribbon cable related. Don't rule out the worm motor (and less likely the spindle motor)

Hi all

Just to let everyone know XBox is working again!

The original issue was the laser but I had obviously damaged the ribbon whilst constantly removing it and putting it back in.

Thanks for taking the time to look into this thread and give me advice.

:D Merry Christmas all
