ii would like to know is i can put a liton dvd drive in a xbox that had a hitachi dvd in it the drive was 59 and im on the new dashboard i don't play online so i don't care about that just want to play my my old back up again and if i can how? i saw a lot other drives.

AFAIK the 59 model does not perform AP2.5 checks, so in fact you should be able to run a liteon in the system with only the DVD copies over, dont spoof the model or it will throw an error code.

dash updates might also not work if the osig is checked against the drive model.

best option is to replace like for like, and im guessing your hitachi has stopped reading discs, so a new laser would fix the issue without having to replace the whole drive.
