Lockup while Flashing any bios except flashbios

Xbox specs:
v1.0
X3 chip
X3 front panel with lcd
Flashbios v303


I've been at this for 3 days now. I can flash with the flahbios v303 everytime successfully. The problem is trying to add any other X3 bios...

Here's my step by step:

Bios protection off (red light)
Bank 1 and 2 on (blue light) bank 3 and 4 off (also tried off-on-off-off with no luck)
Power on
Enable network flash
connect via http
upload X3 3029.bin (also tried 3 older versions with same results)
Got bios-image over http, 1048576 bytes
Found flash Xecuter3 (2048) (01 ad)
Flashing...
Yellow status bar finishes
Green bar gets to about 20% complete
green/orange flashing xbox lights


that's as far as it EVER gets for any bios EXCEPT flashbios v303.bin. I even left it on for 12 hours last night to see if anything different would happen.

I've searched forum after forum and tutorials for hours to no avail. Have I missed something? Do I need to give more information?

Alright...did a little more reading....

Unplug your switch from the chip itself....worked like a charm for me...

Unless you could more specific to the point of making me sound like an idiot, I just got through trying your suggestion with no luck. I even went as far as to plug in the original switchbank that came with the X3 chip and did the following (with and without the LCD connector plugged into the mod):

I was going to do that, but didn't bother since the v303 bios was downloading and installing correctly. I could put the bios on the xbox hdd. I'll have to find the tutorial again (got a quick link?) on how to add files and folders (make my drive NOT read only). I'll start looking for that tutorial now and get back with you.

Erm, your HDD shouldn't be read only. I use FlashFXP to move files to and from my X-Box.

Excuse my ignorance. I haven't touched this Xbox since last summer. I specifically remember adding and changing files last year, but that knowledge has left me (I hate getting old). I'm obviously missing a vital step to accomplish what you are talking about. Here's what I am doing (I've already installed the mech assault linux). My Microsoft dashboard now has a linux command instead of an Xbox Live.

When I run that Linux it goes through its normal text, yadda yadda and I can then connect via my ftp program (I use WS_ftp) to 192.168.0.3 / root / xbox. I can see files in the directory, but can't add or modify anything. I swear I did all this last year. Apparently I'm missing something simple. God, I hate being a noob.

Me either brother. I'm just trying to figure out how to get files and folders on the hard drive per your request. Like I said before, I did it last year, but forgot!

I haven't installed a full linux distro yet, just the minimum files using the mechinstaller.

Don't run your linux command. Just boot into flash bios, that way you can flash via ftp. It's in the flash bios tutorial. You ftp the bios file into a particular folder, and it automatically flashes for you. Hopefully.

Ok. Thanks Adam. I'll try the X3 ftp flash. I went back and reread some info I passed up yesterday about it in the tutorials. I'll let you know how everything goes. If this works, I'll feel like an ID-10T.

OK, tried the FTP with no success. Instead of explaining it, I've put up a website with photos and explanations. A picture's worth a thousand words.

Ok this may sound stupid at first but its worth a try.

Generally the 3.0.3 is needed for 1.6b, I have never used it on the older versions. 3.0.1 works one verything except for 1.6b.

You are running 1.0 box so try running 3.0.0 or 3.0.1 and then flashing the x3 bios. You are having no trouble flashing 3.0.3 on there, but it wont let you flash x3 bios. Try 3.0.1 and let me know if this helps.

I tried flashing the the new 3029 bios from 300 AND 301. still hangs.

On a separate note, I can ping the xbox from a command line. I may hook up an old win98se box to my xbox and see if anything changes.

Let me throw in my 2 cents worth of advice. Try this please. Disable DHCP on your router. Configure your PC ip as 192.168.0.x where x= any number except 99. Reboot your xbox and I believe your xbox will default to ip=192.168.0.99. Http flash using that default xbox ip. Hope it works.

Actually, I started out using a crossover cable and no router with the same results. I tried letting the xbox default to .99 and I used a pc on either .98 or .100 without success.


I'm going to try something and let you know how it goes. There is a possibility that I did not use the "restore dahsboard" the last time I used the mechassault exploit. That could have something to do with it.

If that doesn't solve the problem, I'm going to uninstall the mod in this xbox and try it in a different version xbox.

I'll keep everyone posted with my results.
Just gotta go to my new house and get the mechassault game and pop back over here to my current residence...

Now EVERY bios I try to flash, I get the message: Found BiosUpdate: /BIOS.BIN (256k) _ Unknown flash! Halting. Is this just an incompatability problem, is there a way to restore the Cromwell BIOS that came on the Spider Chip so I can go back to square one? Sorry for the newbie question, but I figured you guys would be the best help I can get. Thanks for reading.

Sorry this is Xecuter forum so I don't think too many people here can help you. Have you tried Spider chip's forum or even Xbox-scene.com forums?

Hey people,
I have softmodded my xbox in the past and installed Xebian. I just got my X3 today and soldered it on. Everything went great even though I thought I melted the motherboard. When I started flashing the bios with x3, it would freeze with about 1/4 of a green bar. I tried everything, then decided to re-lock the hard drive, VOILA. Let me know if this fixes your problem.
