Made it back from my short trip and tried a few things:

Mechassault restore dashboard and try to reflash did not work on the xbox v1.0.

I opened a sealed xbox and and made sure of the version. This new one is version 1.3. So I soldered a header in it and changed over the rest of the install from the other xbox.

Now flashing from a win98SE machine.

SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE!!!
301 and 303 work fine. 3029 is a dud everytime.

If this is a problem with the chip itself, how do I contact TeamXecuter for a replacement? Will they replace or repair? There's absolutely no sense in buying a complete new package when this one {works}. I don't need to repurchase all the accessories just to get my problem fixed.

Tell me if I'm way off base here. What happens if you flash a 256k bios onto a 1024k bank? Let me tell you why I am asking. I disconnected the switch bank and the LCD screen and tried to flash the chip in its native 1024 bank 1 with 1959 and 3029. No luck, same lockup as before. So I oened the ROM bios again and installed v303 on the same bank 1 1024. It took, but the machine wouldn't boot to it.

Thank everyone for their patience and advice. I have an update:

I was able to use the MechInstaller and then ftp into the C drive. I put a file called bios.bin in a new folder named bios. The bios.bin file is nothing more than 3029.

I then unistalled the mechassault exploit and booted the x3 chip.
Flashed from C as per the tutorial on teamxecuter website and....

IT LOCKS UP IN THE SAME PLACE!!!!

I'm thinking bad chip and I want it replaced!

Tonight I started over with the whole project from chip installation forward. Here's a list of what I've accomplished:

Via the MechAssault method, I've uploaded 10 .bin files to the bios folder on C. One of these is the latest EvoX 256k bios.

After attempting ALL 1024k bios files flashing on bank 1234 OR bank 5678 with no success, I decided to try the 256k EvoX - worked the first time just like any other 256k bios does on ANY 256k bank (1,2,3,4,5,6,7, or 8). So temporarily, I'm running EvoX for my dashboard, with no LCD support of course, until someone can confirm that the X3 chip IS at fault and provides a solution. I'd like to hear from one of the teamxecuter members to give me my options.

I'd REALLY like to have this chip replaced or repaired because it is OBVIOUSLY faulty.

Thank you! :)

Here's my response from the (for now) un-named supplier:

"All items are dealt with strictly in accordance with our returns policy.

From what you describe the chip isnt faulty but perhaps you have damaged somethign on install. check the pins where the external switch plug in for damage or shorts.

Thanks"

I'm open for suggestions. I've checked almost every trace on this board for shorts, cross solder, breaks, damage, etc...

The previously un-named supplier was less than helpful. I recommend not using them in the future for lack of a "caring" support department. Please contact me privately, and I would be happy to tell you the name of the supplier. I will tell you, though, that after I contacted Modchipstore.com tech support (I am not even their customer) I will be doing all future business there. Those tech support people are very courteous and helpful. They are trying to work with me to get my problem fixed.

Where are you located? If you are close i'd be happy to test the chip for you on one of my machines.

If you get it sorted, please let us know what the problem was, cos this has got me really stumped.

bit to far for that. I'd take Patecatl up on his offer. maybe someone with a fresh set of eyes can help you figure it out.

New X3CE worked. Didn't even have to change the wiring... Now, what do I do with an obviously bad chip? I mean, it works with any 256k bios on any bank. It just won't take a 1024k...
