Just bought an xbox 1.6 and X3 modchip ... and having one helluva time trying to get the chip to work. Basic problem seems very common, that is the "x" on the front panel always lights up red regardless and i cannot boot to the modchip - i just get the reboot 3 times then frag. Everyone says soldering is the problem ... of course "looks good" is what I say back and so does dad (the electrician) so am a little lost at the moment.
I did measure the voltages on the top side of the X3 chip... and am hoping that perhaps if any are out of the ordinary that can narrow down which pins i need to concentrate on resoldering.

Another question, while i'm testing the installation and waiting to the get that blue "x" to come on, is it fine to leave the hdd and dvd unplugged? or will this prevent the mod from activating?
I probably have heaps more questions to come, but this will do it for now
