Mac address keeps changing

I just installed the X3 and 1959 bios into 3 xboxes. Two of the boxes we new 1.6s and never modified the other was a 1.1 with a 2.3 Executer chip. The two 1.6 boxes are doing great no problem. The 1.1 is another story. I've used the 1.1 with the 2.3 chip for a long time and had no problem, using XBMC as the dash and running Linux. Now with the X3 i find that the mac address keeps changing with every reboot. Ive used Configmagic-final to rewrite the mac back to the original and even tried to to change it on the fly, neither worked. Xboxdash, Evoxdash and Xbmc all show a different mac on every reboot, but when I use Configmagic-final it only shows the origianl mac or the changed mac even when the dash reports another. Ive moded 12 boxed in the last couple of years and this is the first problem I've had, could use some help. Is this a bios bug only showing up in older xboxs? Of course this would be my personal box that I hook to my network...what a pain not being able to use a static IP.

I had this happen to me before. It happend right after I backed up the eeprom to the x3 so all I did was copy the eeprom from the Admin folder and then used ConfigMagic to restore the eeprom and then it worked fine. This has helped several other ppl that I told it to so I hope it helps you.

Still changing

Well of all times to do nothing....I didn't back up the eprom to the X3 before this happened it looks like. I must not have noticed the problem in time. I pulled the backup from the Admin folder and updated with configmagic. No go...I still have the same problem. I even tried using a blank v1.1 eprom and typed in all the numbers and updated that, still no go. Any more ideas? I'm suprised that my search of the fourms didn't show up any of the information you offered. So if there are any people out there who can help......

Fixed

Here's an update.

I noticed that when the mac address changed, it always came back with: 00-50-f2-00-00-(last two numbers kept changing). Using config magic I changed the mac to 00-50-f2-00-00-17. The address stoped changing. I then decided to change the mac back to the original which is 00-50-f2-b8-6c-1e. The mac again started changing after each reboot. I then went down number by number and changed the mac address until I found what changes would not work. I found that I could change the fifth number to any number I liked as long as I did not use a "6". So after changing the 6 to a 7 the address is now stable.

As a side note...if someone has less than 100+ messages to their name and has a problem, this does'nt mean that they are undercover slammers. They could just be people with a problem and can't find the answer using the search system ( which can be a real pain in the ass due to it being case sensitive). Over the years I've only posted a few times, when I found out something new or when I find a fix someone else has overlooked. Most of the posts on this board sound like whinny 13 year olds not yet through their hormone changes. A good rule of thumb for posting is: If you can't help don't post. Life goes on, if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. Maybe Executer can put a section on the board for whinny posts. That should make everybody happy.

It is possible that someone made a fake eeprom with made up values and so happened to be yours, ppl will do this instead of buying a new eeprom. This scenario would only happen if you were connected to the network then the MAC would change until a good one was found which I don't know if M$ would do that but I don't know. Well I'm glad you got it working.
