Is this the standard Xbox DVD drive?
Have you modded the box - what chip etc ?

I would check the IDE cable and then the yellow cable - especially if you've had them all unplugged !! The yellow cable for example should only plug in one way around.

version 1.4 box, x-ecuter3 chip. all drive types now tried from buddies boxes, and they work in theirs. board just wont recognize a dvd rom,(pretty sure board could have had this problem before) is it a bios problem? Could the board have had something erased on it? Maybe like a pc motherboard having to have a bios flash to recognize a processor? Have opened an x-box once, and know nada about them. If you could refer me to some good reading on them would be helpful. Thanks for reply... mike:)

Did you swap their IDE and yellow power cables over with the DVD drive?

Tried changing all cables every different way. Xbox doesnt see the dvd rom drive. On chip boot page only lists the hard drive so the Xbox is not seeing the dvd rom and I konw it works because I plugged it in to someone elses. Ever hear of anyones board not recognizing a dvd rom?

Well I just thought it was worth a shot - if the drive works on a mates box and not yours, the IDE cable would be worth checking.

Not being funny, but are you SURE there are no bent pins etc on the IDE sockets? Is it the DVD powering up ? Can you eject it and stuff ?

I guess it could be a fault with the mobo or something .... check the forums on Xbox-Scene and the error diagnosis sections - there may be an answer there, I read something the other day.

I think we're looking for a fairly simple problem here ... hopefully.
