need some major pointers here guys, i`ve just brought a xbox with a benq 64930c drive in it.
it`s not been updated for a long time as it`s still on the original style dash.
i`ve tried to system update via usb and i keep getting a
status code
335A-397D-1600-0702-COOO-0099
i`ve also noticed that when i put a origina game in it just says play dvd.
any ideas what may be causing these issues?

In your Nand
Hold down the sync button during boot up to get rid of the update error then flash your drive to stock and update your drive 14717 and flash to LT+3.0

It sounds to me like whoever had the console previous to you flashed it with the wrong drive key.

I assume the console has HDMI?

Which dashboard is the console currently running on?

right the dash it`s running now is 2.0.13146.0

i`ve no idea if it`s been flashed in the past or anything about what might have been done to it

As Blakey says it sounds like someone has tried flashing it or has changed the DVD drive which sounds most likely since you are getting that error code. If it has hdmi as also said you could get it rgh'd to get the key back.

read the drive key, flash to stock, then try the update,if it updates then reflash to LT 3.0..
If it still wont work, then your only other option would be to do the RGH to retrieve the drives original key.

Second number means hex version of update you need to provide on usb stick.397D=14717.Put directory $systemupdate with 14717 dash to root of fat32 formated usb stick and let it finnish interupted update.
