Martin and all other experienced modders,

So i installed an x3. But my first attempt was bad cause of bad solder job. Banks 1-4 (on/on/off/off) were badflashed. The flash resulted in awriting error at ... and frags on reboot.

I corrected my install and tried to flash banks 1-4 but flashbios mentioned a halt message. I tried another time flashing banks 5-8 and it worked perfectly. Now i'm using my box witrh all the dashboards and so on. So my x3 install is ok.

But i'm not able to reflash banks 1-4. Could that first writing error be the reason. How could i fix this?

And a second question: when i flash by setting everything to the 2MB bank (off/off/off/off), will banks 5-8 with my working x3 bios be erased?

You're supposed to do the initial flash with all the switches off.....

maybe, but that wont fix my problem now.
by the way, the n00b guide mentions to flash bank 1-4 first

1MB Bank
Bank 1234: on on off off (Set to this when flashing first time with FlashBIOS)
Bank 5678: off on off off

just flash using X3 CL - you dont ever need to touch the switchs ever again after you have the X3 Bios

erm no. who told you that ?
Actually, you did in one of your past posts :) The last time I saw this post, it read like so:
These may be different on the final version

256k Bank
Bank 1: on on on on
Bank 2: off on on on
Bank 3: on off on on
Bank 4: off off on on
Bank 5: on on off on
Bank 6: off on off on
Bank 7: on off off on
Bank 8: off off off on

512k Bank
Bank 12: on on on off
Bank 34: off on on off
Bank 56: on off on off
Bank 78: off off on off

1MB Bank
Bank 1234: on on off off
Bank 5678: off on off off

2MB Bank (Flashing Mode)
Bank 12345678: off off off off
I made a copy of this before your edits, and never thought to recheck later. Is it safe to assume either method will work?

Regardless, I'll advise on the newest method from now on. Thanks for the clarification.

New vad6038 laser... wont install games to hdd

Hello 360mods, I recently installed a new laser in my BenQ VAD6038 and it works great... granted the dvd resistance was at 7.0 and i had to change that... I have not adjusted the cd resistance however. I'm not sure if this is the cause of it not installing games to hdd but i cant think of any other.

The April update allowed hdd's that were previously crippled to install games. I have no corrupt data on my hdd. I have cleared my cache. I have tryed more than one game, the same thing happens to all games, retail and backup alike.

What happens:
Disc is in idle spin and i go to install it. I reach the 0% screen and i receive an immediate "can not read the disc. It may be dirty or scratched" (Now this is not to be confused with the "dirty disc" error. This is a different message.) The majority of the time it doesn't even begin to spin faster and read but it will sometimes, error still comes up though.

If someone would please post the CD pot calibration number (NOT the DVD one) that would be great. If you have any other information as to what might be causing the problem please feel free to offer your 2 cents. :D

the cd side shouldn't make a difference...

the dvd side works best at 5.5 for me.

I understand that everyone says the cd side shouldn't make a difference but what exactly is it used for then? Could anyone elaborate and post a number setting. Or if it isn't too much trouble, find an xbox that works perfectly and use your multimeter to tell me what your cd side is set to?
