Max number of characters....

i was wondering what are the max number of characters a file can contain if im uploading from pc to xbox. I noticed when transfering some rom files over that many werent getting transfered because of the siz of the filename. Reason the file names are long is because i used the rom checker "good utilities" which also renames the files as it checks them. if i saved these files to a disc and copied from the cd directly to hdd would i not get this problem?

now i have had this trouble with roms and mp3 music. from what i can gather when you ftp it doesnt like , - ( ) or such a like in the name of the folder/file name.

this is only my theroy and i may be completely wrong.

as for transfering over via dvd i did that with an emulator dvd and it seems to just stop/crash when it comes to a file it doesnt like the name of. yet again just my own theroy but it would be nice to hear from others

i know its not ( or ) or - or [ or ] because many of the files have that that transfered fine. I think its like +35 characters don't transfer correctly but im not sure if thats just coincidence (damn i cant spell) or if thats really what it is.

If i burned them to cd i dont want the same thing to happen and would be a total waste of 30 min to burn, try to copy, find out it doesnt work, erase disc, pull my hair out once again.

ya that character limit is really annoying with roms and mp3 files.
