--- maximum current from 360 stock fan connector? ---

Hiya everyone,

I already searched and found topics about fan speed but not about the current, so here goes another one of my obtuse questions:

Whats the maximum current the 360 stock fan connector (3 pin) can deliver? (before some transistor blows :( )

I'd like connect more fans to the stock connector. Which starts at 5v and should be just enough to start regualr 120mm PC fans.

My understanding of the stock fan 3 pin wire layout: (according to which additional fans will have their wiring modified)

Left pin: Red Live from left fan
Middle pin: Black & Blue grounds, one from each fan
Right: Brown Live from right fan

Any advice appreciated :)

I wouldnt connected another fan to the fan header as you will blow it, people have had there blown just from having the auora lights connected. Ive been told that the fan header can only handle 0.5 amps, not too sure how accurate this is though.

blown from only connecting lights?! damn.

I have the delta fans, and each fan label reads 0.4amps. I don't know if thats 0.8amps together...

In any case, if you're sure adding another fan (even a 0.2amp one) will blow the header, then thats another idea down the drain... ugh : /

there are several places on the motherboard that you can take power without effecting anything else i wouldn't suggest running that big of a fan in parallel or series off the stock fan header

Xmods is it actually possible to change the transistor for a higher rated one or is it a complete no go? I asked this question the other day in a thread I started but I didn't get a answer.

You can use this for a 12v (see attached picture) this how I run my 2 fans on the outside of the case. Once console turns on they come on as well.

Yeah im using this spot at the moment. I have my jtagged falcon fans running off the fan header and a 70mm fan in the casing using the 12v source in your attachment. I wanted to "upgrade" the fans transistor so I could have all three fans on the fan header and be able to control their speed in fsd.

Has anyone heard of extra fans working on that fan header? (Or know its actual max rated current?)

Sorry to drag this on (you've all advised against it), but I really want to just use that fan header... maybe I'm chasing unicorns... lol

Now just simple questions:

Do any of you ever ground urselves when working on 360 mobo? (u know - static electricy ect.)

Does Xell need JTAG wiring to show CPU key?

Cheers :)

No I dont use a ground strap when working on my 360, although you should wear one

Yes you need the jtag wiring when using xell to get your cpu key

Also I really want to be able to use the fan header but finding it difficult to find a solution.
