If you have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120GB or 80GB HDD manufactured in August of 2003, backup your data up, as these drives have a high failure rate of 90%.
After mine and my friends two drives took a dump, I did some research and found out this drive is failing like the Mir space station. I lucked out and was able to retrieve my data before it finally stopped working, my buddy was not as fortunate with his two drives.
Part# 80GB w/2MB 6Y080L0 and 6Y120L0 120GB w/2MB
Unsure if 60GB w/2MB model #6Y060L0 is effected too but check the date if was manufactured in August 2003 as well, back your data up.
No convinced do a search on "DiamondMax Plus 9 failure" in your favorite search engine and read on man.
I've been runing Seagate Barracudas since there SCSI days and No issues every including my new ATA/SATA versions.
