Due to the fact that the xbox360 will likely be modded and do everything the curent modded one does. I'd like to see a case thats takes away the emphesis that its a console.
I would like this to be able to be a media center that people would not live without. A replacement DVD player that mom and dad will use.

To make this happen:

1) Control ports need covering
2) Silent case fan
3) Dedicated power button (no power on if mod chip disabled)
4) Integrated dvd playback receiver (no need for dongle)

Hopefully you can see that covering up things makes it not look out of place when xbox360 arrives. Most households have more than one television, but not more than one xbox. Now there would be a point in having an xbox with television.

Am i wrong? Post comments!

Thumbnail 3: Just ports on show

no way! you have to have the activity lights, and the controller ports look pretty good in the first image, dont know why you would need to cover them. USB is pretty nice too. Less emphasis on the bank selectors I agree, but I think you should just go out and buy a damn dvd player if you dont want an xbox anymore. Mom and dad should be able to use it regardless of how many cool lights are on the front of the box. I think a flap covering the ports would look ugly and cheap.
Just my two cents. Also, you may wanna consider buying a large dvdplayer and replacing the innards with the xbox, if thats all you want.

No, the option to have a flip lid to cover the buttons and ports is an excellent idea, kudos man. Maybe even 2 separate, one for switches/LED's and the other for ports. I'd recommend against putting things on back, jsut hiding them on the front. And integrated dongle is Key, I did it to my box (on a trip relay with the 4th port and flush with my case) and it's the best thing I ever did.

@ HomeLess, The point i'm making is that when the xbox360 arrives and people start modding that, this current xbox and case will be a waste of space due to possible backwards compatibility. The way is a Media Center that look expensive.
Fancy neons and flashing lights are tacky and cheap. If you get the slick shell you can alway mess it up that way after purchace.

@ silentdarkfalcon, I guess if it was the dip-switches they would be easy to hide.

Regarding the flip cover, if the first picture had a recess where the buttons and ports are, an optional cover could be placed and the smooth lines would still exist. Think picture 2 and picture 4 are the same, one with cover one without.

I also like the idea of hiding the ports and switches. Like Premberg said; alot of people will only use there xbox for mediaplayerpurpeses when the 360 is out for a while.
I for sure dont think im gonna play xbox games on my xbox when theres a 360 just standing aside it.
Integraded ir is a must for a mediacenter case.point.
Leds could be visible. but think they should be very little and elegant. not to bright.and some soft colours like amber, purple ect

if all stuff is covered then there should be something done about the big space in the bottom half of the case...just to break the surface

Well it looks like this project is dead.
Next month the 360 is here and with XP media center 2005, i'm guessing video streaming is available.

What will happen to the XBOX?
Will anyone create a case to give new life to it?
Will anyone create a plugin internal dongle replacement?

Is there money to be made in creating a new case?

Will the XBOX rest in peace with the Dreamcast, Jaguar etc?
