Messed up the BIOS

Hi All,

I have a executer 2.6 in a v1.0 xbox. I was trying to flash the BIOS with x2_5035_vOld_512k.bin using the BIOS flash in the evox dashboard.

I got stuck at about a 1/3 of the way thru. And so I ended up with a messed up BIOS.

(Like an idiot) I tried various bank settings to try to get it to flash and it resulted in messing up all the banks (I think). Everytime it stopped about 1/3 of the way thru writing the BIOS.

Assuming all the banks are screwed up, is there a way to recover from my problem without a programmer?

And if I can recover, what the heck did I do wrong?

You could hot-flash the chip, if you have another Xbox that is already chipped.

Doesn't your Xboox boot from either bank 1 or 2 - are both banks screwed? Flashing through EvoX requires some configuration of the evox.ini file in order to correctly flash the chip. FlashX1.2 is a good Xbox app that'll flash your BIOS (you load it from your dash) - but by the sound of it, the Xbox won't load a dash anymore?

Ya it sounds like you can either hot flash it like Cra41g said or get a programer.

Hot flash you say!

I have 2 xbox's. Both are v1.0

The xbox with messed up BIOS has an executer 2.6

The working xbox has an executer 3

How do I hot flash with that set up? I could make a guess at what you mean, but having screwed it up already, I would appreciate you spelling it out for me.

thanks.

(and yes, I think I messed up both banks in the 2.6).

You should be able to boot the X3 to FlashBIOS, then once it's loaded unplug the chip and connect the 2.6 + switch (you don't need the d0 wire connected).

Select your preferred flash method and go for it. I suggest getting FlashBIOS 3.0.3 back on there for now.

Close. Very Close.

When I try to flash it complains that I have the write protection enabled.
I do have the switch from the 2.6 attached to the 2.6 when I try to flash. I have the chip enabled when I try.

Can you recommend the correct switch settings? It looks like switch 4 is the protection switch. I switched it to OFF, and tried various combos of the other 3. Always same reply, remove write protection.

I have the switch with 4 switches set in a little blue box and it says X2 pro on it, if that helps.

I have tried using Flash_bios and X3 config live. Again, result always "remove write protection"

You have a 2.3b Pro, not a 2.6!!!

You should have been able to tell that from the images of the 2.6!

ok - boot as before. Remove the X3 and plug in the 2.3b Pro with the switch attached (I also did say 2.6 + switch earlier too!) with switches set to DIPs 1 2 3 off and 4 on. DIP 4 is the write protect switch, so on=writable.

It should work now.

Well wadda ya know. I looked up my old email and sure enough, it is not a 2.6. It is a
Xecuter2.2 PRO + Solderless Pogo Adapter (I tried then dumped the Pogo, soldering is the only way to go).

I did follow the instruction to attached the switch. I had switch 4 the wrong way. There is some reverse logic in switching ON the 'protect' switch. Maybe it's cos I'm Irish. We always do things backwards. I'm drinking upside down right now ;-)

I'll try that when I get home for the J-O-B tonite.
