Hello everyone. This is my product so far trying to mod this silly thing. I first tried to do pin header but it wasn't working very well at all. I soon found out that it was because I was using a 30 watt soldering iron, as soon as I switched to a 15 watt one everything was soooooooo easy.

I really think there should be a big banner warning on the instructions website about this because if i hadn't made this mistake chances are my xbox would be working now.

But regardless i had to remove the Pin because the pins where a bit damaged from all the desoldering and soldering I did in my attempts to fix. I did a wire install which soldered like a piece of cake but I'm still getting frags so I'm thinking it must be a broken trace or something. Could you please check out this pics and see if anything is obviously broken? Thank you very much

In the bottom photo you can see that the one trace leading up the pin is badly damaged. I soldered it to the point because it did get lifted up but even so it doesn't seem like it would matter since no wire is attached to it...

*Also* is there an diagram anywhere that helps you troubleshoot the pins? I mean in terms of which pins should and should not be connected?

Oh - My - God !

You mention there should be a warning. What would you like to see?

How about "Please do not attempt to solder your chip if you've no experience in soldering".

I would never attempt something like this if I had no experience.

My advice - cut your losses, sell the Xbox parts on Ebay and go buy a pre-chipped Xbox.

also I can see some solder looing like it over laps the traces in the small picture just behind the wire. if it is going to work... check the board with a magnifing glass.

What really made me chuckle was this:

"I really think there should be a big banner warning on the instructions website about this because if i hadn't made this mistake chances are my xbox would be working now."

Like, how is it OUR fault you can't solder. FFS - it's electronic circuitry, not Lego.

whoa whoa whoa... all i was saying was that as soon as I switched over to a 15 watt soldering iron i soldered the everything in a matter of a minute. For some reason with the 30 watt it just wasn't working at all (but it might have been because the soldering tip was bad.. it was a bit old)

I appreciate the feedback. I'm afraid i do have alot of previous soldering expereince (doesn't mean i'm good at it of course...) but never with something so small soldering points. I guess i was hoping for more specific feedback though. All i've heard is "it's horrible" but i'd like to know what specifically so i don't make the same mistake next time.

In regard to the comment about the possible solder splashes on the traces. That actually is solder flux and i've tested the circuits and it doesn't seem to be shorting from that side.

Clarifying my last question. I was running a resistance test on the different wires coming out of hte LPC and noticed that some defiantely were shorted. Obviously the ground wire should be connected somehow to other pins but i was wondering if anybody knew for sure which pins should short with others.

Thank you for the help. I fixed some bad traces i found on the other side but it's still not game.. i guess i'll be buying a new motherboard soon.

looks like the board was overheated and the board started to come apart. you could have seperated the layers in the board, its probably shot

On the bottom row of pins the 4th one from either side looks like a trace may be bad. You said you fixed some traces,

Why not try a resistance test on some suspect races and see if they are still connected.

It's gonna be a bit like owning a clapped out motor.

You get one thing fixed, only to find you have to do something else.

Get another board and be a little more careful with this one!

you guys are all sissys! That can be fix rather quickly!! now get your iron out an ohm meter and go to work! Find teh alterante solder point but I assure you it's fixable!

Yeah dude my board was pretty f**ked up scorch markes and all the other crap. Plus the wattage dosent matter W=V X A basic electronic theory there, it dosent affect the temp just how fast the iron heats up. I have a 45 watt iron and I can get a 600 degree tip which is pretty low. You probally just burnt a trace somewhere.

Want to flash Lite-On through USB. What do I need to buy?

Good Afternoon, dudes.
So, I want to flash my Lite-On drive to the latest iXtreme F/W. But I only have my laptop, MacBook Unibody 2008, So I think I need to install windows first...
I do already have my drive in my hands, so I've already opened my console. It is Lite-On and its model name is 74850c
I want to flash it through USB, what do I need to buy and is it avaliable to deliver in Germany?
