Need your expertise. I have a fresh unopened Switch waiting to have the SX Pro installed in time for Christmas morning.
With the 6.2 issue I'm wondering if Nintendo might have killed the future for us.
If I buy & install the mod now, put it in airplane mode, then I'm sure I can play backups for 100 different games available now but thinking Nintendo will eventually require a firmware update for all new hot games released in the future and you know what that means.

So, if you were me now would you get the SX Pro still or just put the new Switch onto airplane mode and play original games for now until it's figured out?
Any issue with using the Switch (in airplane) mode without doing anything related to SX Pro, Emunand, NAND Backup, yet, in other words, just use it as if I didn't even know about SX Pro until the future arrives?

Thank You

I would suggest you to check if yours is a hardware patched or just a 6.2.0 fw patched. If it is just a fw patched, I would probably go get a SX Pro and wait. There is a few ways of running a different CFW with the dongle IF you really don't want to wait for the new SX OS.

If your switch has a hw patched, I would not buy SX PRO until they have a fix for it.

By reading most of the 6.2 threads, sounds like the SX Pro is just around the corner. Again, how do you measure "around the corner". It is up to your interpretation.

Lastly, I really want to see your team update this sentence on tx website "SX OS Works with every Nintendo Switch console released before June 2018 out there. On every firmware version!" It is really misleading and it is only a html/jsp or template change. I did not know about this forum until I caught the 6.2.0 bug. No matter how many warning you posted here. Not everyone can see it until it is too late.

It's about 2 months old hiding in a closet so it's definitely not updated to 6.2 yet. I didn't open it but it wouldn't surprise me if it's pre-5.0
It would definitely be more fun to get the SX Pro installed now but I'm wondering what are the chances of eventually having to upgrade the firmware to 6.5 or something to play the latest and greatest game release only to find out it bricks my Switch due to detection of e-fuses or whatever else that changes after I use an SX Pro on it.

I'm a newbie with Switch and SX Pro but have been trying to read the forums to learn, however was into modding consoles since Xbox original.
Seems like I read somewhere people having SX Pro modded Switches that are now unable to play even original games after installing firmware 6.2? True

Thanks

I should add, the serial numbers shows it's mod workable
Bought from a large chain store, it was probably 3 months old by the time I bought it two months ago

There is always a risk. If you check the history of mod, they always have patches. I remember Xbox 360 has patches for new dvd players and it took sometime to find a solution. If you look at PC, they have new encryption method to make the hack harder. We don't have crystal ball or delorean. I would say buy one for playing backup and another one for playing online.

Honestly if you want the latest and greatest, same day release, online, etc then modding is not for you. With every :mario: update TX will possibly need an update also. Sometimes those updates may be immediate other times may be months. Like every other console mod risk is involved. I personally don't mod anything I want to keep and by that I mean I mod with the mindset it could brick any second or be stopped in it's tracks. If you are really not willing to watch a $300 console crash then don't mod it.
Companies have got smarter and more aggressive on modding since Xbox days.

If you don't mod then find someone to sell that one to or trade for a new patched one. They don't make them anymore. May even get a few bucks more than replacement cost
Like enough to buy a new game.

yeah just do it. sx os will probs be updated by the time any new games come out needing a firmware update anyway.

Mod it for sure, but just make sure you research the ways to help prevent updating. TX will be updating soon for sure, but for now 6.2 doesn't work. If you plan to play online a lot it would probably be better not to mod as there is no sure fire way to not get banned. It could happen right away or months down the road.

My current thought is to go ahead with the mod. Just make sure it never gets accidentally updated to 6.2. Worst case, will save enough $ to buy a new Switch later if there is no workaround.
Anyone know if Super Smash Bros requires 6.2 or later?

I saw a list online of the firmware versions required for games and it seems like the vast majority don't require any recent updates. I did want to go use my existing 4TB drive though but seems like that needs 6.1. I guess I could use that (Choix...) software to update it with EXFAT support and be done with upgrading until a fix is found.

Thanks for the info folks. Any other tips before I crack open the box? Sounds like the first thing I look for is the Airplane mode and turn it on. Mod it. Then get EMUNAND setup to save a copy.

You should check the serial number of your Switch in the back of the box just to make sure it isn't unpatched, if it's ok, go 100% mod with SX OS :D

Not sure about games needing 6.2. I think in most cases if you don't install game updates that require 6.2 then you should be good.

One other note, before you even boot into the switch to turn airplane mode off you should backup the NAND. After that, finish the setup, don't connect to the net or install anything, then go back and enable emunand. After that always make sure emunand in enabled. You can tell if you go into the SX menu after booting, in the top right it will say EmuNAND.

Just so I get this 100% correct, I need to get SX Pro mod done before I can backup NAND correct? What is the best tool to backup NAND?

Thanks

sxos boot loader has the option so you already have the tool, bear in mind it will take about an hour for a NAND back up to complete.

put the console in airplane mode and use the following custom DNS settings
DNS1- 163.172.141.219
DNS2- 45.248.48.62
this will block nintendo servers while still giving you internet access for FTP, hb-appstore and various updaters etc....

you can also update your games and console OFFLINE

lastly I would recommend giving the kids thier own child accounts on the switch, if nothing else this should prevent them changing youe wifi settings, this information is assuming you have no intention of playing online.

hope this helps. good luck and MERRY CHRISTMAS
