Ok the last thread with a simular title was all theorys about how to do this but now that there is downloadable content availiable for Halo 2, and they are in the form of a .map file and they open in the editors i am wondering if someone has tried this stuff on live. It should be simple, just be sure to sign it. I would try it myself but Im too lazy/busy.

PS: On the turf map the scarab projectile is there... just swap a projectile for that and (in theory) you should have quite a fun time. :)

dont think it will work because in order to get the modded mad to appear you need to patch shared.map which is written on the disc. Correct me if im wrong.

Ok this is what i understand:

There are 2 places that it will need to be resigned at. The map itself needs to be signed... no biggy all the common editing programs have this feature built in but the .lvl files that downloaded with the maps have a much harder encryption that has yet to be broken. If both of these dont match up just right the map will fail to load. You will not get banned for attempting this on Live... it just woulnt load. I think it may be possiable to change the picture of the map or the description... Im not sure about that.

Also wtf is up with the update mentioning lockout... did that get updated too?

Its been discussed so many times even before you man, cant and will not happen. Bungie/Microsoft are sneaky bastards and modded maps wont happen on live. Bungie has moderators for each Matchmaking match. And if you were doing it for custom games, you would get bored after a while, because all teh time it toook you to set up, you would have to do the same for your friends so they can do the same as you. Just go out and pick up XLink Kai.

right behind you
kimosabe has a good point....but heres an even better one....

Now, for the next little bit, lets assume to *somehow* succede. (wont happen)

OK, M$, who controls live, decides to employ some more anti-cheat personnel. Now look, this is the really tricky part. Let's say the *happen* to go to that place again....google.....and they enter, let's say, Xbox Modding. And of course, www.teamxecuter.com comes up because it totally rocks. After browsing through the forums for ~15 minutes, they happen to come across a publicly accessable thread entitled 'Modded Maps on Live 2.' Well now, what DO you know? After months of hard thinking and planning, your entire strategy is blown in under an hour by an auto-update to fix some *bugs* in Halo 2.

Not meant to flame, just to save you some time.

What is an advantage of playing modded maps on live anyway? Just to say you did it? Your opponent would have to have the maps as well. Its much simpler to just get xbc, or xlink.

Those are tunneling programs for your computer that connect your Xbox to others via system link. Mods are allowed on this.

I see all you guys' points but I still think it would be cool (to try on someone elses Xbox) to do this... and can someone confirm the the .lvl files are more encryptionfor the maps?

The advantage whould be for those who want to cheat. If you mod the mod the map to make the guns less damaging then, when you are being shot at you load a map where the guns dont do as much damage. So you are able to win the fire-fight.

Not true, the is relies on who is host. The host's shared.map is used to gauge everyone else's weapon damage, so if you host with a modded shared.map, everyone else will have the "mods" as well, if you have a shared.map that is modded, but you aren't the host, then your weapons will be the same as the host. Doesn't really matter what you mod, for the most part, I don't think it will do any good.

Thats why I have Live and Xlink Kai.

XBOX Live ensures safety and security as far as modding
goes. I don't like the idea of cheating, my router has
the stand-by option, I could have done it before the new
1.1 Halo 2 patch was released, but I did'nt do it because
I know it would suck to be in a match and someone is doing
it do you. Regardless of whether you plan on cheating or
not, it doesn't matter to me. The whole Idea is useless.

XLink Kai: Now for mods, this is what you want. Modded
XBOXes can jump in and play, even while the chip is enabled.\.
Hence the strong point of Kai. Thats where you can mess
around and host a room telling everyone you're hosting a
hacked map match. It wont count against anyone either,
Kai doesn't support a whole Ranking system such as Live/Bungie
do. I'll end it with a "Good thinking/idea", but you are
wasting time on something that will be incredibly time
consuming. With all the time you use, you could be:
Writing/Coding your own XBOX Application/Program. Contribute
to the Homebrew Scene and don't waste your time on something
that will be so limited to other players.

Take this into consideration, I strongly recommend it.
