Modding a JAP Xbox?

Greetings All,

I just purchased a new JAP "Limited Edition" Skeleton box, and I want to mod it for use here in the US. Is there anything special you have to do other than the normal things required of any US box? Such as:

- Are the JAP v1.0 boards in all the LE boxes any different that US v1.0?
- What about using it on LIVE in the US? Is the original EEPROM ok?
- Video/Region modes? Can you just use Config Magic to change it?
- Power Supply? Do I need to swap it with a US unit?

I am trying to decide if it would just be easier to swap it out wholesale with a US v1.0 motherboard or not?

Does anyone have any experience with this? I would really appreciate some input.

Thanks,

R

I can't answer many of your questions with 100% reliability but I'll have a go. I imagine live will work OK, but thats a guess. the video modes can be sorted out using a number of programs and direct from X3CL. Duno wtf Japs use for their power supplies, so cant help u there....

The main reason I replied was to ask: Where did u get ur Skeleton console from? Were u in Jap, or did you find it online? I raelly wanna get myself a ltd xbox.

Robroy90,

I have modded some japanese xbox's. they were v1.0 and as WRBOYCE stated the power and video coding are as such, "110V power and NTSC-J video coding."

...you should have no problem with it on LIVE?
.... the original eeprom is ok too.
....if you are using your power supply in the states, it might go bad after a while due to the difference in voltage. states=v120, japan=v110
but it should last a couple of years.

oh, i have not had to do anything different to the box's other than the usual setup. 8)

I have modded about 50 Japanese Boxes. You will have no problem playing on live its the same setup as a 1.0 basically and for anyone that wants a skeletal xbox i have 2 of them and would be willing to let them go for the right price.

For the 120V to 110V problem you could probaly get a step down box online, since alot of people bring JAP electronics into the country and are faced with this proble.

The cool part of that box is the case - couldn't you just gut another Xbox and put it in the skeleton case? If yo are concerned about power supplies - take a 110V US PSU and drop it in ... the Xbox mobo get the same 12V DC.

Also, aren't there differences between the NTSC and NTSC/J standards? I am probably wrong there though.
