modding xbox 360 for the first time after a dashboard update

im going to buy an xbox 360 next week and am wondering if i should update the xbox 360 first and then modd it or will the new updates affect the xbox 360 from being modded?

if you flash it first with the latest ixtreme fw you should be ok for the dash update as i was.
