Hi Guys,

Ive scoured all the forums / threads / etc, but still cannot find an answer to my particular problem....

I have a Hitachi 0078FK drive and I have successfully put the Blaster 360 on it.

I have used the SATA connection from the blaster 360 to my PC using an onboard SATA cbale (I have 2 hard drives and am just removing one of the cables from that and putting it on the blaster 360).

My PC setup is as follows:
Dell Dimension 5100, Windows XP SP2, and the 2 drives are NOT in RAID format (or so the DELL support told me).
This is what I get when checking my SATA controller using System Information ( Components -> Storage -> IDE ):

Intel(R) 82801GB Serial ATA Storage Controllers - 27C0

I am assuming this is an Intel (ICH*) ??? and so should work with Hitachi drives (according to Textbooks cool tutorial).

I am using the SLAX CD 2.1 (have also tried the live version but went in infinite loop on boot up?!?).

I switch on the PC and the 360 on at the same time (I dont use the external power supply option with the blaster 360).

I boot up the SLAX CD and eventually get to the login prompt (theres no 'Spinning up Disc' or Cloverleaf logo tho?!?)

The problem is that my drive does not go into ModeB - ie, it still only takes 1 click to open / close tray.

I also purchased a PCI SATA card (JMicron from Maplins) - this did exactly the same thing.

Am I doing something wrong - or is it the SATA chipset (the compatibility list is pretty thorough for Samsung, but a bit light for Hitachi drives).

Help / advice would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
whittip

Is your drive visible in the Power On Self Test (POST) or BIOS for your PC? It should at least be visible there , if not, it's a SATA / cable problem.
