More Backup DVD Media and Drive Issues

I posted several weeks back about my 1.5 Xbox with a crappy Philips drive that was giving me problems reading backup discs. Well, I ordered a Samsung drive and swapped in it for the Philips one. Now, I have 2 Xboxes:

1.6 (new) with Samsung
1.5 with Samsung

Here's the issue. The Samsung in the 1.6 reads ANY DVD+R that I give it. I've used Memorex, Maxell and Verbatim. It also reads CD-RW, but not CD-R. It also doesn't matter which DVD burner I use to burn these. The Samsung drive that I just installed in the 1.5 reads CD-R and CD-RW fine. However, it only reads backups burned from the DVD+R burner in my Dell laptop. When I use the TDK burner in my main PC, the Xbox lists the disc type as "Unknown" and I can't do anything with it. I just swapped the TDK drive for a new NEC 3520A dual layer burner. I tested the NEC unit by burning backups on all 3 media types and at 3 different speeds. Again, the 1.5 box shows disc type as "Unknown". So basically, the Samsung drive in my 1.5 doesn't like a DVD+R unless I burned it with my Dell laptop. I use the same software in both machines. Craxtion and Nero 6. I also dropped the write speed down to the lowest on both the TDK and NEC burners. I don't understand why this is happening. Does anybody have any idea ? Right now, at least I can make backups that work in both. However, this seems like a silly issue to me. I would expect the TDK and NEC to be much higher quality drives than the one in my laptop.

one question why do you use dvd+r?

I always use dvd-r without a problem. Have you given -r a try recently as i thought that was the most compatible format.

I tried some Memorex DVD-Rs on the Philips drive and it didn't like them. I haven't yet tried them on the Samsung. I'll give it a shot. Thanks. This just seems like such a WEIRD problem. I understand that DVD burners are all different, but I create from an ISO file. So, I wouldn't expect this to be an issue.
