Here's how I know I'm a Dark Souls fan: I'm prepared to get hilariously over-excited about the ability to shoot arrows from two different quivers without switching via the D-pad. New details of Dark Souls 2's core bits have surfaced in Famitsu, care of Reddit. The below is a fan translation of slides from a Japanese presentation, so treat with mild caution for the moment. Dark Souls 2 now offers a guard break move, which is apparently similar to the riposte, but performed after bashing through somebody's defences rather than a successful parry. Sounds like bad news for those of us who keep their shield permanently up during PvP.
When aiming a bow, you can switch ammunition types by pressing the other shoulder button, shaving a few milliseconds off the business of ranged combat. Jumping is also now performed by pressing a shoulder button, it seems.
The slides also proffer breakdowns of a number of Pyromancy spells, Miracles and items. There's now an exploding Soul Spear that causes magic to rain from the sky, a magic greatsword, a spell which resembles the fire whip, and a fireball spell that damages both enemy and caster. Other new Miracles include "Replenishment", which increases the player's attack and defence, plus the Dark Orb, which steals stamina from the target.
The choicest of the new items is a special breed of grass, which restores your spell count. There are now Life Gems alongside Estus flasks, and bombs that inflict magical damage.
