Last night I tried the newly suggested way of getting onto XBL with a modchip + upgraded hard drive. I have been working fine with my modchip alone, but finally decided to give a larger hard drive a go. I made a backup, ftp'd everything to my laptop..Replaced hard drive, made sure it was lockable, copied everything back over from laptop, locked it. Disconnected ethernet cable to XBOX nic, booted it up with mod disabled. Went to sign up for new XBOX live account, said it couldn't find internet to connect, plugged it in, retried.. filled out all my info for XBL, worked like a charm.. played halo 2 all night.. this morning BANNED. I get the typical your xbox has had a software or hardware modification, blah blah blah.. I hoped I could swap my old drive back in and be cool with my old XBOX live account on the regular drive.. Swapped it back in, still no go. Not getting the modified xbox error, but still won't connect to XBOX live.. tried changing my MAC adddress in the XBOX network setup, that didn't seem to help.
So the moral of the story is that frontpage story about XBOX live banning updates ( is I didn't completely understand it ).. needs to be a VIRGIN XBL XBOX.. Once you sign on once, forget about adding another drive if you want to keep playing on XBL.
