just watched the colony video. it seems to me like they took a lot of the better features from the mod community and included them in the system - as if they are trying to take away any need to mod at all. also, if the consoles are made to come apart and be customized, what will the warranty look like? =P

As far as the warranty, they could use special tools for their install. It would keep Joe Shmoe from taking everything out. It might just be verifying physical damage to the internal components. That is what I have to go off of at work at times. As far as the hard drive, I think Xecuter can develop the X360 (new name for the chip;) ) to make use of the USB ports so that external hard drives (that have games, XBMC, etc.) can be used with the system. These guys have amazed so far and I doubt they will stop. One thing they have going for them that M$ doesn't, a whole lot more people will be working on it and for free (mostly).

I agree, I also think they are using some of Xecuter's better ideas as far as integration but you have to tip your hats a little as M.soft isn't going down anytime soon and they probably see this as the next step in fully assimilating a solid part of the gamer market... My guess is that they will be the strongest in the next-gens but, who knows, marketing ain't my thang. Can't wait to get my hands on it though, especially if you can run an unsigned OS on it (see the OSX thread)!:)

Just remember that since they are first, Sony now has the oppurtunity to reverse engineer this thing and improve on it.

The big gamble is if they rush a competitor, it might not stack up... but if they wait too long to see what flaws 360 has and try to improve on them they will loose market share for that amount of time.

One of the things that I think benifited the XBox the most was that the PS2 was out there...

All the things that you had to buy seperate for the PS2 (Network Adapter, HDD) you got standard on the Xbox.

Now Sony is in the position XBox was the last go around. It'll prolly get pretty interesting.

still no word on nintendo either. call me crazy, but i'm still optimistic.
Personally I'm hoping for a big surprise at E3, but my hopes aren't very high.

Yeah I've seen it. The intro looks really cool, but it's pretty obviously a fake. Going into the whole virtual reality thing now would be suicide (virtual boy).
Besides, how would it have you run around the room with a visor on your head?

Apparently the video is a protest against industry practices, which -according to the alleged maker- hugely restrict developpers by introducing new hardware all the time without actually innovating.
