I just got a 360 from a guy the did something terrably wrong while trying to jtag this console. So I am trying to figure out how he blew this Mosfet. In the picture you can see what it did to it. It completely blew a hole in it. The location is on top directly behind front usb port about an inch back.

Almost looks chipped? Does the board work?
No it sparks on boot. I'm going to replace it with one off another scrapboard. But I'm trying to figure out how that happened. It also looks like he's burned out db1, and tore up J1D2.

Edit: FT1U2 is also gone. And there's a pin header between the Hana, fans, and GPU named J5C1 that looks he tried attatching something to pin 1.

Where are the sparks coming from?
The center of the mosfet. Here's more pics of this mess.

J2D2

J5C1

Other mosfets that was soldered to. You really can't tell in the pic but both of these mosfets were soldered to.

Man this kid was getting desperate.

Looks like he probably used the wrong mosfet when he replaced it.
They don't appear to have been removed only soldered to. I compared another falcon to it and the numbers on the mosfets match. So I assume they are the correct ones if they were replaced.

You just need to start pulling mosfets off of the board and testing them.

Start there, that's the baby I own...taking mosfets off and putting then back on when you have an Aoyue 968 is a piece of cake

Other than that, I think there is other ways of testing the drain and gate with a DMM, but I'm not sure...I just bought a little thing to tell me "Yep...bad" or "Nope...it works"

Replaced the mosfet and it popped again. Blew a hole in it as well. Thinking this board is toast

Sounds to me like there is something giving a power surge on the board.

If you are actually blowing holes in the mosfets, I I think you have a bigger issue, something is not regulating the power at all and is sending one gigantic jolt to the mosfet and burning it.

I don't see any real noticeable cause for it. before plugging it back in I replaced the capacitor next to it thinking that might have been the cause but nope.

If you are feeling really down about it and are going to give up, send it to me for a look...I'm sure I can probably tell you what it is and fix it...generally power problems are pretty simple
