ANSWERED MRA Hack help

Hi guys

I have an old phat console I bought a few years back and it has a Lite-On drive, I had it flashed back in 2009 and played on it for a little while and then it kinda got used as a media player more then anything anyway we bought a new Home Theatre System and so the Xbox is kinda free to do what it was mean to do.

I updated it which I understand means it had been flashed to firmware known as 2510C now I am planning to perform the MRA Hack on it (I know how to solder and living in SA means having to pay through my ass and then waiting forever to get my hands on that CK3 Probe).

Now my question is if I do the MRA Hack, will I need any additional hardware like the Xbox USB Pro or any of those toys or can I use the consoles power supply to power the drive? As far as I am aware my motherboard's chipset supports this so I don't have to get a VIA SATA card.

Also the way to do the MRA Hack listed in the Jungleflasher Tutorial is still the best and easiest way to do the hack?

TL;DR: Too poor/impatient to buy CK3 Probe going to MRA Hack my Phat Lite-On 2510C, can I use my console to power the drive during flashing or do I need fancy tools?

Any comments and advice will be gladly appreciated.

the probes can be easily made , there's a whole thread somewhere about it

the console is NOT recommended to use as power

Read this, very simple to make and can be built using every-day components - all you need is a switch and a needle/pin.

That thread shows a Probe V1 but you can also splice into an XBOX 360 DVD-ROM power cable - the switch goes on the 3.3v line and the needle/pin goes to GND.

Look up the PMT probe you do not have to cut traces any more to key the key from a Phat Lite-On drive.

I would not advice using the 360 to power the drive .

I found a SA site selling the stuff I need, to power the drive, as the post above me suggests this will be sufficient? CK3 Mini

Also I take it I would still need to buy/make a probe if I buy that?

You can use a home-made PMT with the CK3 but if you are ordering a CK3, you may as well order a Probe 3 from the same re-seller .

yeah use that to power the drive and you can make the probe out of all most anything.

Oh and lastly how can I check if my SATA chipset will pick up the drive? The last time I connected my drive I think I picked it up, although it might have been a different make/model motherboard.

@ Kloppers, If you had it flashed in 2009 do you have the dummy.bin or OFW? If so then you don't need to do the MRA hack, Just spoof you dvd key to LT 3.0 and Liteon erase and flash. If you don't have the key/dummy.bin, Maybe ask the person that flashed the drive if they still have the key, Or just buy a probe v3, Much easier.

I would, but I don't have contact with that person who flashed it anymore, I have just ordered the CK3 Probe V3 and the CK3 Mini, last question about my SATA connectivity remains though is there a list of supported chipsets I can check somewhere maybe?

Right now xconsoles.com has a deal buy a USB PRO and get a CK3i for free, If you don't have one of these chipsets, You might have to buy a VIA Card at very least.
Or to make it easier get a USBpro, You're just gonna have to try and find out.
