Catup,

do the pot calib. it will make a difference. It seems like the Samsung drive is poorly made. I just bought a new samsung drive and was getting the same problem, yes brand new.

I spoof the samsung drive to be used for the hitachi mobo. After changing the pot from 4.22 to 3.11 everything is working great now, huge difference.

I have a spare drive from my hitachi 79fl and deicide to also try swapping the laser, the hitachi laser worked flawlessly, without any pot calib, even though it's set at 4.49 (which is even higher than the samsung drive, but works better).

I'm having the exact same problem with my ms28 drive. I've tried multiple different firmwares and different burning programs but I keep getting dirty disc errors, especially during loading screens.

Can anybody suggest where to get a good multimeter needed to adjust the pot on my DVD drive and some model numbers if you happen to know some good brands?

Adjusting the POT worked perfectly! :D

Bought a $20 multimeter from RadioShack and tested my DVD pot and it was at 4.68. Changed it to 3.22 and it is working perfectly now. :D

Thank you for all of your help everybody!

i'm on 2.98 from 3.68 but still have the problem
Hmmmm thats a shame. The thing is if you lower it anymore you risk burning out your laser.

Maybe a silly question, but I take it you adjusted the DVD Pot, not the CD Pot yeah? Just throwing it in there just in case you missed it. :)

Well, I thought adjusting the pot fixed my problem, but apparently it was only temporary. It will work fine for a little while but then it gives me dirty disc errors after about 30 minutes of playing. I adjusted the pot to 3.22, should I go any lower than that?

I would try burning at 1X like catup did, but my DVD burner only goes as low as 2.4X. I'm using Verbatim media, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Any other suggestions?

I replaced the laser in ODD but now it won't even boot up games. It will boot DVD movies just fine (even burnt ones), but when I go to play a game it just struggles reading the disc and then eventually gives me the "Not an Xbox 360 disc" error. Does anyone have some more details about that solder point I'm supposed to remove. Do I have to get all of the solder off? I got most of it off.

Edit: I just tested an original game and it works perfectly. What the heck could be the problem?

Edit #2: I just checked the POT and it's at 2.98. Now I really don't know what the problem could be.
