MTKFlash just says "No drive detected" with Blaste

Have just installed Blaster 360 v2 and created a boot usb-stick with Iprep. I have an Asus P5b MB with a Intel 82801 sata chipset. When i run idump xxxx I just get the message "No drive detected". Is this because of non-compatible sata-chip or som fault with the Blaster? Have a M28 and I can use the VCC trick with it, so I shouldn't need a VIA chipset. Or am I wrong?

Are you doing the VCC method? Without a VIA chipset you'll have to do that. Next thing I'd try is removing the Blaster from the equation, IMO that thing causes more trouble than it's even worth.

Re: MTKFlash just says "No drive detected" with Bl

I use a Blaster to flash & have had no problems with it at all. It is so easy to switch or update firmwares with it connected as you dont have to take the console apart each time & it looks kinda cool too.

As long as it is fitted & used as per the instructions theres no reason at all why it would cause any problems.

You may or may not find useful this tutorial I made for flashing a MS-28 drive with the Blaster. But I iuse a VIA VT6421A SATA card to flash.

Anyway, here it is:

Dumping/Flashing a Samsung drive with the Blaster360

Let us know how you get on. :)

gaccus
count your self lucky we are all kicking in on this.i also like the blaster.the 4 i have installed work great BUT i would agree with bigd23 learn to flash without it the first time.
some have got a bad blaster so just do the flashing this time without it.after you get the steps down then try to dump with the blaster just to make sure it good and installed right.

Yeah cofree has made a good point actually, I rate the Blaster highly, it's a nice bit of kit. But I started flashing without it first of all also & would agree that maybe it's best to "do it the old way" first so you understand more what is going on when you flash.

Re: MTKFlash just says "No drive detected" with Bl

Yes, I need to use the VCC method and because of that I can't do it the "Old way" since I din't have a VIA chipset. But I never get to the point where I shall turn of the dvd. I tried to leave all my other sata-drives connected one time just to see if mtkflash found any of them, but I only get "no drives detected". What is wrong her? I have read that my intel chipset needs a hex-hack of mtkflash to work, but dosn't Iprep do that for me?
Anyway, I will try without the blaster later today, just to see if mtkflash find my drive.

I also class this as the "old way", by old way I mean taking the console apart, connecting the SATA directly to the drive and powering it with the console itself to flash.

Considering you can pick up a VIA SATA PCI card for a few bucks/pounds I would be very tempted to forget messing with your onboard SATA controller in an attempt to flash with it with the VCC method. Instead I would just buy the VIA card & use the 10 second trick. It would save you the trouble of having to take your DVD drive apart, solder anything & risk damaging your drive. They are so easy to get hold of and so cheap too.

OliMaylen:
I see u too own a blaster and then you know that I dont need to solder anything. I just use the Blaster for the VCC method. But to get to that point I need the damn computer to find the xbox-drive. I just spent 100 bucks on the Blaster and I anyway have to buy a VIA-card that I shouldnt need with the Blaster?! And with a VIA I really dont need the Blaster :D Don't you use your Blaster anymore?

But is my error in line with a non-compatibel chipset? I read that when other people have a non-compatibel sata-chip mtkflash find the drive, but the dumping and/or flashing don't work. Is it something wrong with my Blaster?

I am thankfull for all your replys. I really hope I can get this to work without spending more money.

gaccus I think you are confused as to what the Blaster is and what is does for you. Think of it as an extension cord for your 360's SATA connection. It can also put Hitachi drives directly into modeB but with a Samsung drive, it's just an extension. It takes the SATA connection inside the 360 to the DVD drive and extends it to the outside of the case so that once installed, you don't have to open the 360 to flash firmware again. But it does not replace the need for either a VIA chipset or doing the VCC method. And the VCC method requires you to de-solder a resistor from the DVD drive itself and install a switch between 2 points, it has nothing to do with the Blaster.

I know what the Blaster is. It's you who misunderstand. If you look at the video OliMaylen have in his first post here, you see how the blaster is used for VCC instead of soldering.

But my primary problem is that my computer dont find the 360 drive and that has obsolutly nothing to do with VCC. That is in the next step.

LOL is that right? Well I'd love for you to show me where in that link or in either of those videos he's doing the VCC method. He's doing the 10-second trick with a VIA chipset.

You're obviously confusing VIA and VCC, you really need to slow down and read Textbook's tutorial.

Re: MTKFlash just says "No drive detected" with Bl

As I read the Textbook, again for the tenth time, I get an "AHA". I totaly misunderstood the difference between 10-second-trick and VCC. I tought VCC just switched of the power to the drive.
Well, seems I just bought a pice of junk when I got the Blaster :( Yes, it' more convinient, but not $100 more. It's other almost free ways to do the same. Damn. And finding a VIA-card in my contry is impossible. I'll see if can find someone abroad who don't take four times the money in shipping-rate as the card itself cost.

Re: MTKFlash just says "No drive detected" with Bl

Thanks for your offer, cofree. I'll keep that in mind. The shop u linked to in your former post seems ship to Norway for a reasonable price. I also found a shop up here in the arctic wasteland which sell the VIA VT6421A. That will work without soldering too, yes? Boot maker will hex edit the driver for me dosn't it?

Re: MTKFlash just says "No drive detected" with Bl

Just one thing though, use IPrep not Boot Maker. It's easier to use and better in my opinion. That way you can follow Textbooks tutorial to the T by using iPrep as he does.

Make sure you have the latest version of Textbooks tutorial, in the old one he was using Boot Maker, in the updated one he uses iPrep as most of us actually do now.

Let us know how it goes. :)
