Thought i would post what i have done and it worked for me in any case.
A little while ago i flashed my samsung ms 25 with xtreme firmware using my onboard intel with no problems. Recently i got those dreaded 3 red lights, tried to modify the xbox, it worked for a bit then the red lights came back so i gave up on it and bought a new motherboard which supports the ms 28 version i used the firmware tool kit to change my orig firmware key to the new ms 28 key and spoofed it and reflashed the drive it flashed with no problems. l went to test it with no luck i tried spoofing and modifying and flashing it diffently still with no luck but then i decided just to flash the drive with the orig ms 28 firmware pluged it in and worked but only with the orig games of course, i was surprised that this worked using a ms 25 drive with a ms 28 firmare but hey it did. Now it was a matter of just using the xtreme boot maker to read and flash the firmware but now could not read the firmware i used the 0800 and yes it was on a d/l disc but still did not read but now the xbox has not got the hacked firmware in it so in theory did not have to use the disc. I think i must of changed the ms 25 to a ms 28 but the hardware has not changed. I also tried to do the 10 sec trick (bad flash method) knowing that you needed a via chip set for the 10 sec trick to work i thought i try it anyway but of course did not work so i went out and bought a via pci card pluged it in did the 10 sec trick and read and flashed with no problem. Tested it all out and all back up and orig game work with no problem. It all work fine with no spoofing and no changing the key from the ms 28 to the ms 25 firmware.
So in short i flashed the ms 25 drive with the orig 28 firmware and using xtreme boot maker xread and xflash and using the 10 sec trick with the via chip set and all worked fine used the xtreme 53.
