My modded xbox - Different!

this is an old xbox i decided to spray white and reshape (a bit). Then i got some black paint and just paonted whatever i wanted.

There is no clear plastic covering the sides yet as it is a work in progress, but i hope to stick a couple of cathodes in it and replace the stock fan.

the power/ reset switches you see are not stock ones as i sold them ages ago and couldnt find anywere in the uk to buy a replacement, so i have used a couple of push to make switches. The power leds will just be inside the casing to light it up. I'm thinking of going with Blue LEDs unless anyone can convince me otherwise.

tell me what you think!

lol yea, i thnk taking that side bits off was abit dumb. now its kind of exposed to potential hazards. perhaps you shud shape some new clear side bits so you can still see the internals without the risk. but apart from that its all good

well im sure if you go ahead with clear side panels another good touch would be to light it up inside so it has an internal glow, that would look really good :)

It says on pc's and any power supply that if you touch it even when it's off it can shock you. Something to do with static maybe. Is this true? I need to know 'cos I'm gonna be putting an xbox in a millennium falcon soon :D

no static...the caps hold a charge. also if it's still plugged in your xbox uses standby power so it is still drawing power when off but still plugged in. most zaps come from the caps though.

That's bull... I've modded several psu's, no problem at all... just unplug the power cord.

As for the "OH HELP I'M BEING SHOCKED" part... That's not terrible.. I've once been floored after getting a schock of 380 volt (goddamn the one who didn't connect that s*** right!) But that was only for about 10 minutes.. I don't think that an xbox @ 12 volt will do you very much harm.

I know that schocking is mostly about amperage, but 12 volt or 380 still makes quite a difference.

EDIT:

I've modded 14 psu's... Had some running while open... No static at all.
I have a motherboard running on top of my 21 inch monitor and that still works. Statical electricity is there but not noticable. Only in extreme cases it can shock you.

i say what would be neat is replacing what you cut off the sides with colored mesh.

I agree! That would look very nice. I'll second this motion.
