Hello guys. I don't know if this has been done before. Just wanted to share my super "noob" friendly external eSATA 3.5 HDD mod for my RGH slim. This mod can be done in about 5 min and under $10. This mod will work for any powered external eSATA dock/enclosure. The only tools needed are long needle nose pliers. I used a standard kitchen tongs. LOL.... No need to open up your console, no cutting, no soldering, no worries about voiding your warranty. I can't confirm this, but im pretty confident this would probably work on other consoles like PS3/PS4, XBOX one.
Parts needed:
SATA 22 pin Male to SATA 7 pin. I bought mine off ebay for $5. This will be plugged inside the xbox. You will need your pliers or kitchen togs to guide the connectors in to match up the connection with the internal xbox SATA connectors.
I connected the 7 pin female end to my external HDD docking station via eSATA using this SATA/eSATA converter. This can also be purchased off ebay for $3.
The end results look like this. Unfortunately the HDD bay door will remain open.
Your external enclosure will provide power to your hard drive. So no need to do any 12v power mods to power up your 3.5 HDD. You will just have to be sure you power up your enclosure prior of turning on your console. This will allow your console to detect the hard drive upon boot up. To my surprise, the xbox detected the presence of my 1TB hard drive without the need of flashing my Hard drive using HDDHACKR tools.
I was simply prompted to format the drive. After the format was complete, the xbox detected my drive. I went on ahead and configured FSD3 and uploaded all my games.
This was a cool mod for me. I was able to use my 7200RPM 3.5in drive. The performance increase over USB2 was well worth it to me.
That is it guys... I hope you all enjoy.
