yes, you can still setup a dash. You just can't get back on the xbox live service. There is no "x3 live configure". It's actually called "X3 config live" (also called X3CL), and has nothing to do with XBOX Live. X3CL is the configuration menu where you configure your X3 bios. It can be set to prevent connection to XBOX Live while the X3 is on, but that won't help if your box is already banned.

speaking of getting banned from XBL:

since some of the Avalaunch files go onto the C: drive, will MS pick that up even if the X3 is disabled?

just wondering since there has been speculation that MS is scanning to see if a modified HDD exists. I dont think im gonna play XBL anyway, i enjoy PC games much more. As long as i can network with a bunch of other XBs via LAN so we can all play together im happy. But i know i can do that still :D .

Deny Block Xbox LAN,192.168.0.102 WAN,* *,*

I set this up in my router which all my computers and my xbox are connected to.

My xbox's ip is the 192.168.0.102 which I have set as the source and its being denied on the WAN which is the internet on all ips, all ports, and all protocols. This should keep my xbox from being banned on live right??

If im correct it wont be able to connect to anything on the internet. I did this since I dont use it on live but may want to some day in the future.

It shouldn't unless for some godly reason you have a mutant box....lol Also I think you might be able to still play XBC or KLink as long as you use the software on ur pc.

A little more info Jango.

When did you first go on live?
When did you put the chip in?
When did you upgrade the hard drive?

I have yet to have a problem, but I log on to live with the stock hdd and replace the 120 every time. PITA but I think thats the key, and my stock drive is chip ready so I think they look for a different hd serial versus the machine serial, this is just what I have read.

here is a very interesting post from another forum. This seems to be the only unique idea i have seen. The other ideas keep repeating.

Hey guys whats up.
While many of us are trying to rearrange files on hdd to avoid being banned by this new xbox live detection, it is serving no purpose.
MS is not checking the hdd, and i believe i have proof of this.
At first, like everyone else, i went on to play halo 2. 120gb hdd locked with an xecuter 3. Played all ngiht, woke up next morning and was banned.
When this happend i felt like doing a little experimenting.
Thanks to blackwolf, he was able to supply me with a few eeproms while i did a little bit of testing.
I used an unmodded hdd. Totally original hdd that came locked with this motherboard. Files were not tampered with in ANY way.
Went on xbox live, modchip disabled of course with this locked original untouched hdd.
After playing for about 10 minutes I noticed the color of my x3 switches changed.
Now for those of you are familiar with the x3, red means disabled, blue means enabled and a purplish color means backupmode.
As i was playing and sitting in a lobby waiting for a new game to start, i noticed the color of my switches changed from red to purplish(x3backupmode).
So my assumption here is that MS is scanning or putting power to certain LPC points to detect chips, thats the only reason why my modchip would turn from off to backupmode all on its own.
Sure enough, after the color change, i went on xbox live about 10 hours later, with the same locked original hdd. I was banned. Got the modified xbox error.

Now for a little more proof...
Many of you may or may not know a guy by the name of Peer.
He has a 160gb hdd loaded up with dashboards, apps, etc.
When halo 2 came out, he locked his hard drive, and took his chip of the LPC points.
He has been playing for 3 days on and off constantly with a 160gb modded locked hdd with no chip with no problems.

With all the above said, i believe it is very safe to say that MS is somehow checking the LPC points.
What this means? Chip revision? possible.
You also can probably take the chip off the points or unplug it everytime you want to play, which may be lame also.
What i was thinking was if you Take a switch for each LPC wire and solder it in between the motherboard and the chip, by switching it off will cut the chip off completely. So this may be an option, but is not tested yet.

If anyone would care to add, feel free.
Thank You,
pane

Did you use the same gamertag with the unmodded HD? Maybe your gamertag was banned and it just took a few minutes to take effect with the original HD. I just find it hard to believe that MS can check voltages at your LPC points and tell there is a difference via a network connection. The changes in the HD files seems more logical since we know it is possible to scan HD's via networks, but solder points seem a little far fetched. Now I could be wrong but it just seems a little unbelievable to me. But I guess anything is possible. I will test the theory soon since I have an untouched HD with an X3 installed but no dashboard so there are no files on the HD. I will post my results soon.

360 Overheats Based On Hard Drive?

I have been helping a friend who gets two red lights on the left side of his xbox 360 power button.

I took the heat sinks off, used some rubbing alcohol and black sand paper to clean off the cpu / gpu. Added new artic silver 5 and put it back with nylon / metal washers I got in a kit off ebay.

It always boots with green lights, now that I used the sand paper.

We played games for 3~4 hours using my hard drive, but when we plug in his hard drive it overheats right away. He also mentioned it overheats without any hard drive at all. I would point the finger at the hard drive, but I am suspicious about it overheating without anything at all.

My limited guess was that there is a problem with both his hard drive and xbox. With a better hard drive it was able to swap out memory using the hard drive (more than the disk drive) and avoided overheating?

Any suggestions?

Re: 360 Overheats Based On Hard Drive?

it is not the HDD's fault

your RROD fix must not have been good enough

time to try again

also, sandpaper on the processors seems awfully dangerous to me
if i were you, i'd invest in some GooGone to remove the paste

Re: 360 Overheats Based On Hard Drive?

In my opinion sand paper would make quite a bit of static through friction, and using abrasive material on sensitive hardware does not make sense at all, ever, for ever, what the f**k. Is it overheating, or did something ground out in the hard drive and is shorting something else. Use a different hard drive and tell us how it goes. How did you even think of using sandpaper? Christ you might as well scrape it off with a screwdriver.
