I'm fairly lost ... I'm trying to understand if I can change the settings in launch.ini for dashlaunch on the fly or if each time would require me to reflash the nand?

for what reasons in the future might I have to write the nand again?

Open the .ini in notepad and you can change the settings.

EDIT: You can also update DL via .xex it comes in a folder with all the files needed. The only reason you should need to read or write to the nad is to update dashboard versions. Since its modded you can do the with xell.

As said above, edit launch.ini and the the patch changes will be reflected in the system.

You will have to write another NAND image if:

A. Your existing flash becomes corrupted in some way.

or

B. You build a new image for another dashboard version in the future.

yeah I understand how to change the files. I'm trying to figure out if any changes to launch.ini require me to hook up my nand-x each time?
basically launch.ini is really daunting with all of its options and I'm trying to figure out what to hit but it seems like to test it I have to put my xbox back together at which point flashing the nand becomes a little more cumbersome and I'm feeling very timid about what settings to try.

You will not need to re-write anything if you edit launch.ini.

Changes will be made "on-the-fly" if you will so you are fine to edit the .ini, just be sure to reboot the console once you have made and saved any changes.

Sometimes when you add different plugins you may need to run dashlaunch again but can be done in xexmenu.

Are you writing launch.ini to your nand? Dash Launch installs in the following ways - launch.xex and lhelper.xex are injected to the nand. launch.ini can reside in the nand or any connected storage device (The later being the recommended setup) So once you install DashLaunch the launch.xex and lhelper.xex stay in the nand and dont move now the only configuration needed is in the launch.ini and the only reason I could think of you rewriting the nand is if the launch.ini is also on the nand. If it is just move it to another storage device on the machine and leave it there (in the root).
