I have been repairing and flashing xbox 360's for some time and accumulated several systems that the users tried to replace the drives themselves and tossed the old drives before they ever called me. Now my real question is, would it be possible to retrieve the dvd key from the board with the coolrunner or maybe even downgrade the dashboard with coolrunner and then jtag the boxes to get the dvd key. All of the dashboard are to high to just do a jtag but most of the are jasper boards made before 2009. Any help would be much appreciated.

The coolrunner will allow you to get the key and does what a jtag dies without worrying what dashboard is on it.
Works on all machines except xenons.

Goldensavage is correct, and why would you want to downgrade dasboard? It works on any dash.

You can get the key and then remove the coolrunner if you want.
But there is no downgrading the dash.
So jtag is out. But as said before. If your trying to downgrade just to jtag. You may as well leave the coolrunner and treat the same way.
So a coolrunner and nand x will be fine. Also need nand x coolrunner programming cable.
Ensure that if you are purchasing a nand x. It has the new 3.0 on it.

I want to clarify - to simply read the key from NAND, i need ONLY CoolRunner or need to buy NAND-X too?
you need the nandx to dump the nand, you could make an lpt cable but will take at least 35 mins per dump.
I never got a matching dump with my lpt but never had a problem with my nandx.
