You do not need VGA cables and also did you write Xell ? If not everything should be the same. Yes of course you can turn it on, just unplug the nand-x before you do.

Then go ahead and turn it on, if you want to (make sure you unplug the nand-x before turning it on). It won't change anything. You can go ahead and read the nand :D Also keep the power supply plugged in, but do not turn on the Xbox when you read the nand. :D
Good Luck

Since you haven't done anything to the NAND yet, if you turn your Xbox360 on, it will work just like it normally should.

OK well, I successfully read my nand.. soldered the jtags.. I just finished writing XBR..

Is this as far as I can go for today seeing that I dont have my VGA cable ? Im meant to move the jtag qsb to center to do a power boot and I should be presented with a welcome screen..

Although this isnt happening is this because iv got the console running in HDMI at the momment ? Btw im following the Alternate JTAG SMC/Points tutorial..

I get a stable light in the middle with the bottom right light flashing..

from little info i would say he's getting E79 if only one light flashing,

so maybe needs to turn jtag on/ move switch from of postion or re check his soldering

I'll second that and obviously cause he's using the HDMI connection he can't see the E79 error message on screen ...

The E79 message is also shown even if you're using HDMI. Its only XeLL/XeLLous which don't work on HDMI.

Thanks for the replys guys, I paniced and removed nand completely.. cleaned up the soldering with no luck didnt solve my problem..

Im not sure what to do now.. nothing shows up on the screen.. I can confirm the light is red..

Going to wait till my VGA cable comes in from ebay.. any way of correcting this error before hand tho ?

Iv cleaned up all the soldering I did.. Im clueless what else to do..

Why are you waiting for the VGA cable? Don't you have the standard AV Cable which is included with the Xbox360?

Going to get the JTAG soldered back on.. Check the error once the VGA comes in which should be monday.. What are the steps to resolve a E79 error ?
Most of the time, the soldering of the JTAG QSB and its wires are related to E79. Therefore, having everything soldered nicely is one of the best ways to avoid seeing an E79 error.

Thats interesting cause iv removed the JTAG & the wires.. I still recieve the E79 error tho.. so im a little confused how that could be causing it.. i just finished soldering the nand back on, doing another dump as we speak. What would you recommend I do? Solder the JTAG back on ?

sh*t ! just realised something my original dump was in HDMI mode.. not VGA..

Tutorial said:
Your original 7371 NAND dump. (Make sure that the original dump had been made when the Xbox was set to use the VGA cable, not HDMI)
Iv rewritten my NAND, although it still red lights.. I dont have a good feeling about this..

*UPDATE* OK im booting up agian no more red lights PHEW !! going to wait till my VGA comes in and do like 5 dumps of nand before anything.. lol

I don't know why I wrote only "VGA" cable in the tutorial. A simple AV cable will do fine too.
