FIXED: Nand-x "could not detect a flash controller" Problem

I have read every single thread with "could not detect a flash controller" in it, but didn't find an answer. So I was recommended to start my own thread.

I will describe everything i've done:

I have a xenon motherboard, that has been refurbished. When it came back it had the 2.0.7371.0 kernel and on the back it says: mfr date: 2009-07-25 It's never been updated since.

So I decided to give it a go and soldered the Nand part QSB's of the nand-x to the motherboard. I managed to get 3 perfectly matching dumps of my nand. My CB version was 8192, so from what I read, it was exploitable.

I then unplugged all cables and soldered the JTAG part QSB's to the motherboard.
When I wrote XeLL to the Nand, it went just fine. But when booting the xbox gave me a E79 error, so I flashed the original Nand dump back and my xbox booted just fine. Then again, I wrote XeLL to the Nand: E79. But when I tried to flash the original dump back, the computer said: "could not detect a flash controller"

So I went to check my soldering and redo some suspicious points. After that, the computer still wouldn't recognize it, but it DID boot XeLL and now I have my CPU key.

No matter what I try, the computer doesn't recognize it.
Think I might redo the Nand QSB's or solder directly to the board, but wanted to hear your opinions.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: added pictures of soldering!

TIP

EDIT: Finally I've managed to get freeboot working. This thread really helped me out: http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52198

Thanks everybody for their support!

As most of the threads with this similar subject, it's going to be one of two:

1. soldering issue with the one of the NAND points.

2. one of those boards that stop reading and writing to the NAND after few times.

For your sake I hope it's the first one. Try soldering directly to the board, preferably on top of the board but you can also do it from below if you don't want to remove the QSB's.

A high resolution picture of your soldering would help as well.

I'm going to try and solder directly to the board. Is your 2nd point a big issue and can it be fixed (in case it is a motherboard like that)?

This is the highest resolution i could get (any closer and the camera went out of focus):(

EDIT: you know a good way to remove the QSB's without damaging the board?

Trying the direct solder method is definately worth a go, it helped a few people lately. As of yet there is no known fix for motherboard that only allow you to read/write a couple times. I think it is being looked into though. Hope you get it working mate. Use some flux and some desoldering braid to remove the qsb's

Tried the direct solder method for the 2 nand parts. no luck:( checked, double checked the soldering and the wires aren't touching anywhere... direct soldering for the jtag parts were not in the nand-x kit, should I try that too?

soz mate I misread your post, if your xbox is booting xell then the jtag soldering is fine and I would touch it at the mo. Can you post some pics of your soldering for the nand part? When I do this method I cut off the legs on some resistors and push them through the holes, blob a little solder either side of the holes and then solder my wires to the resistor legs.

The new cyngos I think is a no as they are no longer dual nand and use the onboard nand. The xd card may be a option but is not a easy mod to do from what Ive heard. The other option may be to try putting the nand into recovering mode.

Tried it a few times, keep getting the red light and when I don't it doesn't show up in jtag tool. Thought that I only get the orange light if i don't have them all shortened out good
Is there anyway to prevent the red light on the psu?

If the power brick stays orange then you should be ok, if you using jtag tools then hit the read button immediately after removing the short.

The link in your post is refering to updating via xellous not xell as it states. xell does not allow to flash the entire nand via usb. You can try to update xell that you probably have to xellous and then try to flash the nand that way. Sometimes though people experience problems trying to update xell to xellous and end up having a console that wont boot at all.

Glad you got it working mate! Will have to bear this in mind if I get a problematic board.

I think the only con of this is, if you corrupt your nand and your xbox would not boot anymore... You're practically f'd, because the usb flash from the computer doesn't work.

(I'm a bit scared of installing dashlaunch right now)

Unfortunately i opened door number 2 :) One of those boards.

I happy you got it fixed mate ;)

Happy homebrew ;)

Could've still been me screwing up the solderpoints... Don't feel the need right now to resolder to the alternative points, but maybe in time I will try and I will be posting the outcome here;)
