JTAG NAND X E79 Tried everything!

Hi, I bought a brand new nand x with other week, to jtag a jtagable Xenon console I had bought on eBay. I decided to use the QSB's, so I installed the QSB's and the Xenon QSB's. I tried numerous tutorials but everytime that I wrote Xell, I got the dreaded E79 error. I tried with the QSB swith set to 0 and 330/470. In even changed the small black square on the Xenon QSB from the two pins of the 330 ohm resistor to the two pins of the 470 ohm resistor. But still nothing worked :/

In desperation I bought the Xenon E79 QSB's from Mod Traders. But still no luck, and I was stuck with the E79 error.

As a last resort a tried changing the Xenon QSB's to manual wiring with two diodes. Still I got the E79 error.

The strange thing is that I can read and write to the nand with no problem. When I read from the nand, and compare the images, there are no differences. And even when I get the E79 error, I can write the original image back to the nand, and the xbox will boot normally with no problems!

These are the tuts I have followed:

Please could someone help me? I've been struggling with this for the past 3 days with no luck. Thanks :)

can you confirm that J2D2.1 goes to J1F1.3 and J2D2.2 goes to J1F1.4? Apart from that, the soldering looks very hit and miss. you might have a dry joint there.

also, can you confirm that the console is JTAGable via CB (open up a NAND dump in 360flashtool)?

some 7371 consoles are actually not JTAGable

I know it looks bad on the pics, but if I had soldered it all wrong, then surely I would not be able to read the nand correctly, if not at all?

Yes Martin C, J2D1.1 goes to J1F1.3 and J2D2.2 goes to J1F1.4. When I gently try to move the wires at the solder point, they are solidily soldered, since they do not move at all. Hope this helps :)

I know J2D2 and J1F1 are used to write Xell to the mobo. I can read and write to from/to the nand with no problems, but with I install Xell I get E79 error.

No it doesn't matter. I do all the soldering then perform the software portion afterwards. You can dump the nand, flash and everything with the jtag wires in place.

No, they're not.

Read what I wrote again.

J2D2 and J1F1 have NOTHING to do with reading and writing of the NAND. They are purely to do with the execution of the exploited SMC you have installed.

Martin C, what are you trying to say then, that I need to remove the J2D2 and J1F1 before reading the nand, I dont see there importance in this problem, since I can read and write to the nand with no problem, its just when I write Xell. Thank you for your patience :)

I'm trying to say that whether you have J2D2 and J1F1 points correctly installed or not, it won't make a blind bit of difference to the reading and writing of the NAND. Therefore you can't say "it must be fine as I can read/write", as it's irrelevent.

You need to check over your soldering on these points and ensure they are good enough.

Hi again, I resoldered all the points and still no luck :/ I did notice something strange though with the nand dumps. I wrote the original (1st ever) nand dump back to the nand, power cycled the xbox, turned the xbox off, and re-read the nand. When I checked the dumps using nand compare: on the left are the original nands, in the center are the newly dumped nands, and on the right I am comparing an original nand dump with a new nand dump.

Will these incorrect blocks make any difference to the Xell image will be written to the xbox, when using coolshrimp's Jtag Tool v3.00, and this tutorial?: http://www.dports.me/nandx/nand-x.html

Cheers :)

If you're getting errors, the soldering around where the NAND-x goes could be causing problems.

I would look to getting someone to resolder this all for you!
