Hi guys,

today my nand-x stopped working. I get "Cannot find flash controller". Worked fine for 4 months. Tried on various board type, last on 4 glitched xboxs. No luck. Please dont ask me about wirings/soldering.

Is there anything i can check? Diagrams to see if any component is broken? Any magic that i miss?

Thanks!

Mine too. Done plenty jtags and nand dumps/writes, never any issue. Stopped just after a .ecc write... Still lights up and gets recognized (usb) but no flash controller either. Before somebody says "It's your wiring / change the cable / try the pin headers / try the direct soldering / try the qsb, etc..."

I always use direct soldering to the board, i have 3 different nand-x cables, i even made a frigging lpt cable to keep working and yes it works even though is 1 meter plus long, so my wiring and soldering is not too shabby.

Just frustrated to stare at my unresponsive nand-x while i wait more than 1.5 hours to get a simple 16 mb lpt dump. Glitching a Big-block jasper now. To do that on lpt is :crazy::crazy::crazy:

You have issues else where if it takes you 1.5 hrs to dump via LPT, it should take no longer than 45-50 mins max

yes, is not a top notch pc, actually is a Toughbook, but never was an issue since i use usb for everything, and it's touch screen and fits nicely in my workstation. Besides i have the docking station for it with a nice LPT port which i thought i was never going to use until my nand-x went bad. And i didn't time it precisely at 1.5 hours. It was a figure of speech. Usually i take off and come back 1.5 hours later, and except for my faulty nand-x i have no problem whatsoever. Thank you for the precise timing of the dump. What about the 64mb, do you know the timing for that too ? I let it run for 3 or so hours and then came back and it was done. Thank you for the insight.

u can only send back before the 30 day mark... what would the process be to fix it? replacing a diode, resistor or the ARM chip? i would really like a TUT for this so that if it happens to people they can fix it them self's since most likely they have soldering skills.

The reseller is getting it back, when i told him the problem he seemed very pissed, as it was not the first time. He will send me a new one. I will sell it right away. And never will be buying such product again.

Good point !

@Ubergeek ... maybe you can give some insights on the NAND-X ?
Or possibilites on how to realy fix it (besides checking soldering and pressing the reset button).
I'd realy like to know what actually breaks ... is it the hardware itself? Or the software on the ARM ?

If so, it would be great if there were something like a knowledge db, on how to fix a broken NAND-X ... maybe with the flash file for the ARM controller in case the software on it goes nuts ... or something like that.

I'm sure you get the idea ;) I want to keep on using this great product ... and when it goes bad one day, I want to be able to fix it myself, since I won't be able to return it, because the shop does no more exist  + buying a new one makes me feel stupid, since 40+$ is a lot for me, while living with the risk it (might) break again.

Thanks,
iCEQB

Perfectly said!!! I completely agree. Someone @TX should really explain what could be done to fix nandx!!!

I don't know which rights you have in your countries.

But in the uk. Even if the seller says they have a 30 day guarantee. The UK has a standard statuary 1 year guarantee on all new electrical and computerized items.

This does not include our EU laws, which extends it to 2 years.

So at least i have peace of mind.

If Uber says send it back, then send it back if you can, treat the reseller with as much respect as possible. And i am sure they will treat you the same.

They can always check the forums to ensure that you have tried to rectify the situation.

I hope this helps. Check local rights concerning purchases

I understand that we can send it back if in the UK but im from the US. Im pretty sure that we dont have this extra warranty.. and also.. It shouldnt be much of a problem for a TUT. i mean why not im sure someone has the time.

I'm pretty sure Canada is the same. I remember reading it somewhere although I don't know where to confirm it.

Well in Italy for first year the producer must repair it or replace it. The second year the reseller has to take care of it. Beside the law, i dont really see why there shouldnt be a guide to help ppl repair their faulty nandx. We all pretty much know what it is for, so anyone using it has some kind of electronic experience, and at least one would have the choice to try to repair it..

As much as I would love to be able to fix something like this myself there are a couple of problems I could see coming from it.

If TX writes the guide and someone makes a mistake while trying to make a repair, they would look to TX to still fix the problem.

If a mistake is made during the repair it could make the problem worse.

Yeah, but the main problem is, that nobody knows whats actually broken! Physically this thing remains the same as it doesn't blow up (afaik :p).
So I can only think of:

1) Too much voltage on the ARM somehow, which fries the chip inside.
2) Software brick, which should be fiaxable via a JTAG rewrite.
3) Both ... which is still fixable.

So theres gotta be a way to bring this baby back to life.
