Ok, from a little searching I realise there's people out there using this writer to make XBox backups.

I did my 2nd Xbox last night and thought I'd try an ISO I had lying around. So opened the .dvd file and it said cannot find "blahblahblah.ico"...

So I thought, why would it want an icon file... So I opened the .dvd file and it was just 2 lines of text, one with the layerbreak figure. The other was just the filename "blahblahblah.ico"..

Looked like a type, so I changed .ico to .iso. Loaded it in CloneCD as Alcohol120 doesn't support .dvd files. As soon as I press record it spits the disk out and mentions "No Seek Complete".

A little bit of googling shows a few sites like this and people using bad media, the ones I used were HP. I have since updated the drive firmware to 2.1B but haven't tried burning again yet.

I can't see it spitting out out media before it's even tried to burn anything..

Anyone?

I've used the 3500ag and it worked great for me. I did have a slight problem whenever I tried using memorex media with it, it started giving me troubles and wouldnt burn my verbatims after that either. I updated the 3500ag to a custom firmware and that solved my problems. I would not use the HP discs, use verbatim or =. Use IMGburn instead of alcohol120.
Also the .dvd just contains the layerbreak information and the .iso file its linked to.
