Need a confirmation about Live banning

My brother's Xbox has been online in the past, long before I put an X3 in it along with a new HDD. It's been a long time since it was on Live though. Long before we started noticing the spike in bans that were later determined to be MS comparing HDD serial to eeprom.

He's forgotten the passcode to his Live account, which is why it hasn't been on in a long time. I've been hesitant to call up MS to get it in fear that they have logged the old stock HDD's serial and would ban the box.

So what I need to know...is even if the HDD serial was logged and the box does get banned...would it still be re-banned if I changed the eeprom - perhaps because it logs the new HDD's serial?

If i'm reading your post correctly, you installed the hdd/x3 and he hasn't been on since correct? when was the last time he was on xbox live? If it was BEFORE the release of halo 2 (aproximate date), he will not be banned if he connects to xbox live. They only started logging hdd serial since about the time halo2 came out.

I'm pretty sure he won't be banned because that is just like my story. I installed my mod/hdd long time ago but have been on xbl pretty much atleast once a week. Reason i haven't been banned is because when they STARTED logging hdd serials, they logged my upgraded hdd, even though my stock was seen by live before but that was before they started looking at hdd serial.

of course if you want to be extra careful, you could buy a new eeprom, put those settings in and then you will be totally safe.

It was last on well before Halo 2, several months. I'm just worried they may have started logging before...but perhaps not banning until Halo 2.

I guess I'll try it out anyway. Thanks

Okay...the topic has changed a little but here goes.

I decided to try the Account Recovery option. I got onto his Xbox and inputed all the info (correctly), then submitted it. It gives me an error though, saying there were technical difficulties, and to try later. So I tried later - no luck. I also tried the same thing to bring my Live account (3month trial) to his xbox with no luck either.

So I tried on my xbox, and it worked fine. What problem is his box having submitting that info? Is there a way I can transfer the account that I now have on my xbox to his?

I just want to say this and hope not to get flamed or anything just something that happened to me. I was having problems updating the subscription code for my xbox not modded in any shape or form. 100 % stock so i went and got my brothers brand new xbox still in the box 100% stock and copied the account over to it to see if it was my xbox having problems and it didnt work when i tried updating the subscripton code. So i called Xbox Live and explain that i was having a problem and the guy told me that there are 2 xbox with the same account on them. This to me means that they are keeping track of something they can use to identify the xbox. What do you guys think? I finally got the problem fixed by the way.

PS. The problem I was having was the same one as stated above "Having technical difficulties try again later" It was that my credit card expired and they couldnt take the money out for PSO so it posted to my account. The solution Cancel my account and create a new one.

wow your a smart one. How do you think people get banned in the first place. We've known that they can identify xbox's pretty much ever since it came out. Whenever you log on xbl they look at your eeprom and your hdd. Your eeprom is what contains your hdd lock/unlock info, seriall number, and bunch of other sh*t. And why would they care if the account is on more than one box. Has nothing to do with any problem. Probably just a new guy at xbl support looking for reasons as to why it wouldn't work.
