Need a few questions answered before buying please..

So I read a lot more about getting banned etc.. It appears there was just a wave of consoles that were banned recently?

I haven't turned my xbox on in months, probably 6+ months.. Should I update to the latest dashboard BEFORE I change the firmware on my drive?

Also, what are the best practices in order to not get banned? I'm guessing to not even play on LIVE at all? Or, is it safe to play on LIVE if you run through abgx? I've read this last wave of banning people got banned without even having a disk in the drive??

Thanks for the reply.. Sooo much to read and try to understand and everything is never all in one place. :(

So what is all this "wave" talk? Is there a page you suggest that explains all I need to know about backups, isos, waves, SSv2, SSv1, etc etc?

Ok. I read up a lot over the past few days and have a lot better understanding of everything.. I get my order today and just had a few more questions..

I haven't turned my 360 on in months, maybe even a year.. Should I update to the latest dash before I flash my drive? I seen the issues with the 3 games were fixed so I'm thinking yes.. I also don't *think* it matters if I upgrade before or after but just wanted to see what would be recommended.

well first things first if you haven't used it in a while, check your dash version in the system blade of the menu and see if its on 7371 or less because if it is it could be jtaggable and worth either selling as is or having the jtag done to it depending on your needs. a jtaggable xbox could sell for the price of a spanking new one. if its higher than that i'd update it first with a usb memory stick and the update from xbox.com or from live and then flash it with the firmware for your drive. lt 1.0 is the latest for samsung drives and lt+1.1 is the latest for all other models.

edit oh and instead of endless reading get the jungle flasher pdf guide, it covers all the drives and is all you will ever need knowledge wise. you can find it the download section on the main page

Thanks for the info regarding the version and possibly selling it. I'll check that tonight.

Ok.. I got the Blaster and I'm in the process of installing it.. I viewed the guide from team xecuter and it seems easy enough except it gets confusing towards the end because I have a liteon that I need to pull the key from so I can't put my xbox back together as it says to..

What am I supposed to do? Just leave it all apart but have the housing of the Blaster connected? Do I hook up the USB and SATA to the PC when I pull the key? Guess I have some more reading to do...

That's the guide I was following to install.. It's installed but not completely because I can't shut the case up because I need the DVD drive open to pull the key.. So I take it I just leave it open while I get the key or what?

Well my ESATA to SATA cable finally came in and I fired up Jungleflasher but it doesn't find my drive.. How do I find out which SATA chipset my PC has?

Forgot to update this way back when.. All I had to do was reboot and I got it flashed no problem..

:)

Now I just need to flash back to stock (have to figure that out) so I can then update the dashboard and then flash to the new FW..
