Need a laser for Samsung 605B

my laser doesnt work good. i get alot of "dirty disk" errors. where can i find a replacement laser? the laser's model is SOH-D16. i found many SOH-D12s, will that work?

No, but if you go to a modding site you can purchase an Xbox DVD for fairly cheap.

Wouldn't it be pretty hard to replace the laser... I thought that they have to be angled just so... or they don't work.

Anyway... are you in the States or UK?

you can clean the lens by actually opening the dvd drive, you can buy one of those dvd cleaner cd things, you can buy a new dvd drive or you could always bring it to a tech repair shop they usually give free estimates on how much it would cost to fix or replace.

Just wondering, do you get the DDE from playing original discs or backups? If it's backups, it can be the media you're using.

i doubt its from the media.
i tried the laser cleaning disk, and some games/movies started working.
samsung is said to be the most compatible drive, so i doubt its from the media, everything is burnt on ritek dvd-r. divx movies on cd-r work just fine, and so do original games(only tried halo)

Unusual question... but do you smoke?

Cos , DVD lens cleaner discs don't really clean lenses which have smoke deposits on them.

You may need to manually clean with lens cleaner and a cotton bud.
